Fixed Bugs (3.x) / Re: Deleting Background breaks everything

Thanks! That worked. It's all playing ball again now. Do you have a mantis database that this kind of thing could be logged in?

Fixed Bugs (3.x) / Deleting Background breaks everything

Hiya

I added a placeholder background to some scenes so that I could draw over the top of it to match the tile layout to one I'd worked out previously in photoshop. After I was done I deleted the background but didn't remove the background layer from each scene.

Now I can't open any of the scenes that had that background in, I also can't delete those scenes and can't open the settings panel.

Every time I try to I get the error below.

It's obvious what's caused this but is there any kind of work around to be able to get into those scenes or get rid of them entirely?

Unexpected problem on thread AWT-EventQueue-0: stencyl.core.engine.actor.IActorType cannot be cast to stencyl.core.lib.background.Background
java.lang.ClassCastException: stencyl.core.engine.actor.IActorType cannot be cast to stencyl.core.lib.background.Background

Thanks, that physics code was the bit I was after. Gives a much much nicer effect than what I was using.

Nothing to do with the logs.

Atlases got introduced after my project was started so I just ignored them as I didn't immediately need their functionality. A selection of my levels didn't get settings for atlas bindings automatically added and were set to "retain". When i pressed test these levels didn't load.

I flagged them all to use atlases and be present in all atlases and hey ho it works again. Joy!

That's a couple of days of pointless faffing about. Bleugh.

Mine was an entirely different issue.

Only when testing on windows.
I've not tried android or iOS (my subscription runneth out) but flash seemed to work fine.

Woo response!  Sorry for bumping this really really old topic.

What physics settings are you using for those blood splats?

I'm doing basically what sdieters recommended for actually making them move about but I can't seem to set the actor physics to behave vaguely realistically.

Resolved Questions / Solved - Stuck Switching to scene
« on: December 13, 2014, 10:36:59 am »
Latest public release of 3.2 (the one available on the main site) seems to have issues with testing on PC.

I've installed it and every time I hit "Test Scene" with PC as the target it compiles, finishes and opens the stencyl window. Then in the log it just repeats the message below and the game window is blank and white

Level:     INFO
When:      2014-12-13 18:32:46
From:      stencyl.sw.util.StreamGobbler

Engine.hx:1735: Switching to scene 7

endlessly. The 7 depends on what scene you're trying to test..

Logs forthcoming.

I think I'm getting the same thing. Any time I hit test game the first scene that loads up is always just blank.

Some logic is happening though because if you put a behaviour on that scene that loads another one it'll load the second scene fine.

Nice workaround. Thanks!

Seems like the sort of thing there'd be a button somewhere for though. This isn't supported stencyl functionality?

For a better explanation than I was able to produce I'm basically experiencing this

Is this a Bug? Stencyl doesn't respect the default Game Attribute values

Resolved Questions / Solved - Clearing out save data?
« on: December 13, 2014, 03:52:25 am »
I'm having an issue with a game that loads up two different scenes depending on whether the game attribute for "tutorial complete" is true or false.

Basically after I've flipped that bool with game progress and triggered a save (ie after I've done the tutorial) every time I test the game afterwards I always start from after the tutorial scene.

Is there a way of clearing the save data so I can test from fresh, rather than having to do builds every time I want to test with game attributes having their default values?

Ask a Question / Re: Getting List Game Attributes using a string
« on: November 15, 2014, 03:48:55 pm »
Well I am a silly old hector.

As happens everytime I stare at something all day and then put a question up here I've worked out that I was doing something wrong..

List returned value is being compared to a number to it need to be a number too.

"Value of game attribute with name:" does indeed work on items in lists.

Ask a Question / Getting List Game Attributes using a string
« on: November 15, 2014, 03:39:08 pm »
I'm trying to make a shop with some buy buttons and progress bars for buying and displaying upgrades. I think I've got something that almost works but in order to genericise the behaviours (so I don't have to write a different behaviour for every button and bar) I need to be able to get values out of a list that I'm storing as a game attribute by invoking the list as a string (or some other way). I'm using "Value of game attribute with name:" to do this for the index of list but using that on the actual list itself throw compiler errors about type mismatching.

Is there a list suitable alternative to "Value of game attribute with name:"?

I guess they need to appear, get pushed out rapidly and then code to a sudden stop.

The equivalent of an in interpolation.
