Fixed Bugs (3.x) / Re: Android Back Button?
« on: May 19, 2014, 01:46:25 pm »
thanks sandsoftimer. nme.Lib.exit() is the way to go :)

I need help with this plugin (droid). The facebook functionality works fine for my debug apk (test game for android function), but everytime i create a published APK it refuses to connect to facebook. The connection never happens on the signed APK, keeps prompting for permissions, checked using the facebook boolean and its showing as false in final published APK.

the debug apk is working fine, i cannot upload a debug apk though. the signed apk fails to connect. Could it be a problem with my certificate/keystore? its the same one ive been using all along. Please advise asap.
My game is live on play and im losing ground for my search positioning as long as this is not working. Please help out, guys.  Much appreciated.

EDIT: attaching build logs with post.
EDIT X 2: apparently i need publish feed approval from facebook for my app first. have applied for it, lets see how it goes.
EDIT X 3: approval received. also, it taks abour 4 to 7 days. and make sure you generate a separate facebook keyhash for your release APK (the keyhash for debug version wont work).

App should be live with working facebook functionality in about 2 hours. looking forward to seeing you guys play it!
Special thanks to Jon (stencyl), David (fb plugin), Sandsoftimer (nme.Lib.exit)  and everyone at the stencyl community for making BBB possible! All the best!

+1 to that, the google leaderboard is a must have, along with other google + features.

Peace everyone.
Took me about a month, but my first android stencyl game is now live, thanks to you guys. Would like to thank Jon, David (the FB plugin guy) and all their peers for making stencyl and its plugins a very efficient and time saving platform for all of us. The games link is give below, feel free to download and play. Feedback Welcome!

Fixed Bugs (3.x) / Re: Android Back Button?
« on: May 18, 2014, 10:42:15 am »
it sends the app into the background (android doesnt let it kill anything). a quick fix (until we get a proper solution) is to switch scene to the first scene of your app/reload it prior to calling the closure code. This way the user experience remains same if the user clicks on app icon again.

everything seems to be ok this way, as android self closes app later once it starts running out of memory. Only issue is that due to the system.exit (0); whenever i click the app to play again it doesn't show admob ads. found a solution on stack overflow (but ill need someone from the stencyl dev team to help with this).

this.moveTaskToBack(true); - apparently this would prevent the loss of the admob sync, and give the same output as system.exit. But its not a recognized command within the stencyl IDE/code block. (nme.system).

Please help fix asap, if ads dont load after first exit, its a major issue. Help appreciated, thanks.

for reference.

Some common issues we all ran into (droid)

step 1 - create a facebook app - goes along fine. you do not have to do anything exept generate an app ID, the rest can wait.
step 2 - take the app ID from facebook and save it somewhere safe.
step 3 a- download the extension and extract it to the c:\program files (x86)\stencyl\plaf\haxe\extensions folder. though this might seem easy, the zip file is actually subfoldered (took me an hour to figure out what this problem was). Copy the 'Facebook' folder onto this path, not the 'Facebook extension' folder.

step 3b - update android sdk  (tools only)- no harm done here. pretty easy (unless a few months down the road an update comes in that renders something incompatible, and you involuntarily update your SDK :P).
step 3c - go to: [Stencyl Install Folder]\plaf\haxe
‚óŹ Execute haxelib install intheboxmacros - this step is missing neko files. you need to download them here: for windows its a zip file who's direct contents (not subfolder) needs to dumped at plaf/haxe folder, where they are required (this is another area where many people have gotten stuck).

Rest of it seems ok, am currently at the hash codes step. will complete the post once im done with my game's integration. hope this helps.

EDIT - Im done, its working well. Will check the postings tomorrow - its 7:30 am here :S. Another issue that i encountered was that if you create a package name that has more than 3 parts (e.g. com.something.something.extrawordafterfullstop) - you get a compile error (some issue with foldering). had to export a copy and rebuild because of that. if your build is giving you an enum error while compiling with facebook plugin enabled, you need to re-export the game, and re-build it as a droid app with a new package name.

Also, its always good practice to finish a game before going for third party integrations. Make sure you have a QA'd, working droid build and keep FB integration for last. when you start doing it, please make sure that you export your original build first, so its safe in case you go wrong somewhere. Stencyl is stable but its droid compilation capability is not as strong as its IOS/flash compilation.  Save time by building on flash (player), once the game is 80 90% complete then test on droid for controls/UX etc.

Hope this helps save other people time. Great work by david and his peer, this plugin is definitely it.

guys, im getting the 'neko.dll' missing error at step 3c (inthebox macros installing).
downloaded neko 2.0.0 for windows form the link suggested on page 2 , but dont know how to install it :S - using 8.1 for droid compilation. Help appreciated, on a tight deadline, thanks.

EDIT - worked out. just dumped all the neko zip files into the plax/haxe folder in the default installation directory (where it was missing). apparently neko is installing to a different path which is why it doesnt work.

News / Re: Stencyl 3.1 - What's coming next? (Updated April 11th)

1. Android keyboard
2. Google Analytics
3. Leaderboards , pref. Google play game services (if not google play services then something custom)

Resolved Questions / Re: Score Manager

+1. you have to restart stencyl 3.0 after adding any custom plugins, managers, or even game attributes (else they wont be visible in palette during same session). no big deal though, unless you feel like creating a new game attribute every 5 mins :S.  best way to do it is to plan out your dataset on paper before implementing it.

Ask a Question / Re: How many people are active stencyllers?

active stencyller - right here - +1 (droid). its way better than anything else ive ever used (for 2d). just needs google play services up n running as a plugin and it would own all else.

spent 2 days working on this, it cant work due to JDK issues too. stencyl uses 6.31 tops, while eclipse works on top of 7.0 n over. secondly, all play services work over a 'basegameutils' class, that extends the basegameactivity class. even if i were to somehow manually include classes they would cause overrides into stencyls base classes.

in short, only someone who's worked on stencyl while it was made can do this (or someone whos really good at this).

this would definitely increase stencyl penetration by leaps and bounds. looking forward to someone helping out for this (not new to droid, but new to stencyl). if i can figure out something would be glad to share.
