Ask a Question / Loading One Game Within Another

Hi,

I'm trying to figure out if it's possible to load one game within another (or replace the current game). I have asked this question before regarding flash, but the answer seemed to be no, though I've looked into it and action script 3 will let you do it, so would this be possible with haxe?

I'm primarily interested in doing this for mobile, not flash, so I would have a game that would act as a directory to load other games.

I have an actor that leaves a trail of images behind it. The issue is that when the actor dies, the images remain. I've been trying to get the images to fade out and then get removed when the actor dies but I'm struggling with it. It seems that I can remove all the images the instant the actor dies, or not at all (which makes sense as the actor with the code/lists is no longer there.)

What's the best way around this?

Hi,

I have lots of actors off-screen, that are not set to be always active, yet they're causing my game to lag. I thought that actors off-screen wouldn't have any impact on performance?

I'm attaching the code that's attached to one of my actors that's causing the problem. Is there any way around this?

Hi,

I've been getting the error below on some scenes.

Universal#uncaughtErrorHandler(59): Error #1006: get is not a function.
The odd thing is, some scene which worked previously, now don't. Here's the thing all the scenes have the exact same code. I use a bit of code when the scenes are created to assign the correct map. (see attached image)

I had another strange bug where sometimes this didn't work, and I would have to duplicate either the scene, or the map, and eventually it would work. I am 100% convinced that this wasn't an issue with spelling. It's as though either the maps or scenes are becoming corrupted.

EDIT: I think I may have solved this. Seems Stencyl didn't like having maps and scenes with the same name

Ask a Question / Colission Shapes

Hi,

When using debug drawing what do the different colour collision shapes. See the attached image. The actor that's being  pointed to will not collide with my player, or even move.  I can't figure out why as I just duplicated some actors and changed the animations. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

I noticed that the affected actors have a different colour collision shape and I was wondering if anyone knew what it meant.

As i've got to know Stencyl, I've figured out ways of working to improve frame rate issues, but I can still see lag sometimes. Just wondering what your tips and advice are, so that I can see if I'm missing something. Thanks.

Another of my Retro Redux  series (this one created while I try to solve a bug with my biplane game)

Simple tap left or right to move.

Only three stages available at the moment (Level 01, stages 1-3), but the plan is to create lots of stages, with each one introducing a new 'enemy/trap' to overcome, and finally giving the player endless version of levels completed.

Hi,

I'm just trying to figure out how to add colours to a list. I stuck the RGB block into a draw text block to see how it outputted, but the output didn't make sense (R0,G1,B2 came out as 258). I need to store specific RGB values so that I can get them later. Any help appreciated. Thanks.

Hi,

When I tried to test a game, suddenly every scene stopped working. Even scenes with nothing apart from some some simple test drawing all appear blank.

Errors below (the 2015 error appears first), and logs attached.

[Flash] Universal#uncaughtErrorHandler(59): Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference.
[Flash] Universal#uncaughtErrorHandler(59): Error #2015: Invalid BitmapData.

I'm aware of the 1009 error, but as everything is affected I can't track down what it is.

Any help gratefully received. Thanks.

When designing for TV there are specific details for 'safe areas' (see attached image.) I haven't been unable to find anything  for designing for apps. I was wondering if anyone knew of a minimum safe area for mobile devices?

Hi,
What I'm trying to do is draw two lines from the centre of a dial (like a clock.) Each line is to point to an actual degree value, so I'm not looking to convert values or anything. So if the value is 180 it points at 180 etc.

Hi,

I've been unable to figure out how to assign a game map attribute to a local map attribute using text.

I'm trying to automate a lot of my setup by having the scene name the same as it's corresponding map, so when a scene loads, it gets the scene name and uses that to get the correct map. Or am I missing something?

I was trying to create a timer that will record to three decimal places by incrementing the timer by .001 every .001 seconds, but it doesn't work. Is there some work around?

Hi,

I'm trying to use my own fonts, but frequently run into issues where certain special characters don't show (even including full stops).

I've tried using the custom setting for fonts but this doesn't always work. Some characters still won't show.

Anyone know how to resolve this?

Alternatively, any know of any good, free 8-bit style fonts that do play well with Stencyl?
