Ask a Question / how to create independent actors with same behavior
« on: September 09, 2012, 01:02:47 pm »
I am working on a strategy game. And i need to find the good way to do the following.

I have a worker that is walking over the screen to pick up food. I can easely created multiple workers but when one worker picks up food....all of them are picking up food. Also the ones that don't have food in front of them.....

I don't use game attributes so it looks like if one worker has collosion with the food...the collision is shared with the other workers???

Of course i can create multiple actors with all the same behavior and when creating i would create actor 1 then actor 2 then actor 3...but that sounds stupid

Any suggestions ???

Don't use cheap memory. For 1 or 2 $ extra you can buy quality memory. I would go for kingston memory (very reliable).

Why did you chose that motherboard??? No need to use such an expensive motherboard. What you save on the motherboard you can use to go for 8GB ram.

I suppose you are going to use the integrated GPU. In that case about any powersupply will do but i would not go any lower than 400W.

The case is just the exterior and has not impact on the speed of the PC. Keep it low budget. Don't worry about heating problems because the CPU you suggest doesn't really produce much heat anyway.

Forgot to mention: watch out because the i3 is sold with and without a integrated GPU. You wouldn't be the first that would buy the wrong one.... :) Looks like the spec's are indicating that this one has the integrated Intel HD graphics.

Do you have your workspace in a directory with full rights?

When you start stencyl => under preferences => make sure you put a full rights folder
for example "my documents".

I have seen that some of you have been sending games for putting on my website. I do accept games made with stencyl but not with game description that can be found on all other sites.

If you want your game on my site....send me unique description written for my site only. Use at least 100 words. I promise you permanent placement on my site + at least 1 month on front page.

I used SWF protector (http://www.dcomsoft.com/) and it worked great. You can try a free version with watermark if you want.

I tried Kindisoft Secure SWF (http://www.kindi.com/) and i had nothing but problems. I contacted them for help but support is non existing.

Good protection isn't free so

If the expectation of earnings are low .....don't waist your money on it or go for a free protection with watermark

If the game is great.....i would consider buying protection.

How do you know the game is great or not?

Put the game on FGL and try to find a sponsor. If nobody wants to sponsor your game for more than you need to pay for protection => don't protect

If somebody offers a lot more than what the protection cost => i would buy protection

Don't buy any program for protecting your game BEFORE you have tested that it works with stencyl.

No need to delete last inputted letter. You simple don't draw it anymore.....hope you follow me.

The text you write is refreshed all the time....so if you don't draw it anymore....it is gone...

Chit-Chat / Re: Stencyl is still too difficult to use
« on: August 24, 2012, 07:25:29 am »
Does it really matter if it is coding or not??? :o

Anyway
Sploder = ideal for kids (< 6 year)
Scratch = ideal for kids (<10 year)
Gamemaker = good for kids > 12 (used in school here a lot)
Stencyl = easier than gamemaker but has some limitations
Construct 2 = ideal if you want to use HTML5

I have tried and made games in all of them :D :D :D :D

Well, if we're talking about refusing to sponsorship, then sorry to say that, but I think... I can see why your game was rejected. O.o' Sending instructions and story to game description, as well as weird working controls are quite a turnoffs. >.<

So yes, it's quite possible that Stencyl wasn't the reason here. ^^'

No i am not talking about sponsorship. I am talking about accepting the game on an arcade website....

Anyway i have stopped making games since they are so bad that the stencyl website is probably the only site that would even consider showing the game.... :) :)

I have a pretty bad experience so far. Some websites are refusing games because it is made with stencyl before they have even seen the game.
