Ask a Question / Re: Why does this simple code lag my game?
« on: January 07, 2012, 06:53:05 am »
Actually, "otherwise if" are generally fast (if my knowledge isn't wrong) as long as an early condition is met, since it will just skip the codes after the one that was met.

I did not know that :P thanks *downloading information to memory*

might be due to many different things, the only thing that strikes me is the amount of "otherwise if" statements. seeing as the game checks every the statements every frame it could cause a small bit of lag, but what I'm guessing is that it's making it extremely laggy? in that case, you might want to find another way of creating the same function but with different statements/functions etc.

I guess that's not much help, but at least you know someone is looking at your problem?? :P

I was thinking that maybe we could get a new little screen in Stencyl for all our non-commented stuff. I usually use Microsoft Word or Notepad for writing my ideas down but it would be really useful if there was an in app idea write down box.

Please consider doing this it would be great :)

Ask a Question / I know what I want to make but how do I?

Hello everyone my name is Sam. :o

Right, now, it's something that's been bugging me for a very long time and it's only just now it hit me to just go to the forums and actually ask some others about how they starts stuff.

so my problem is I have a whole lot of ideas I would love to create with Stencyl, but my main problem is where to start, what to do first and what should I do before I even start making the game? It's something that always gets me, as I always think "damn I should have done the graphics before I started" or "Should I have a story line for this random game I'm making". It's these things that make me close Stencyl and just go out for a cigarette and forget about it, but I've still got these ideas/mechanics for games that I really want to make.

could you guys tell me what you do before you start a game, what you do as soon as you do and what usually happens when your creating the game, for example, do you ever have times where you leave it and come back a week later due to getting frustrated etc?

thanks it would help me a lot if i could get this straightened out :)

or you could "do for x seconds" and set the animation keyframe for the frame you wish to freeze??
