Ask a Question / Re: Multi spawn, how do I manage that actor?
« on: June 21, 2011, 04:06:28 pm »
Scene > Actors > Get Actor has a block which can give you the last created actor.
Attributes > Lists > Add/Insert has a block which lets you push that actor into a list.

Do this right after you spawn each heart, and you now have a list containing all of them.

Resolved Questions / Re: Creating a Title Page?
« on: June 17, 2011, 10:31:03 pm »
The basic idea is that you have a separate scene for your title page, and that scene has a button which will change your scene.

Useful blocks for this could be:
  • User Input > Mouse on actor > Mouse was pressed on self
  • Scene > Switching > Fade out for (0) seconds, then switch to (Scene) and fade in for (0) seconds

Normally you'd set it while exporting the video or embedding it on a page, I don't think there's anything you can do about it design or code-wise. I also don't think that Stencyl has an option for this, so you're left with the second option - set it while embedding. I dunno what sites let you do this, or even if any of the major ones do.

Old Bugs (1.x/2.x) / Memory leak?
« on: June 17, 2011, 01:04:51 pm »
During startup and before doing anything, StencylWorks uses about 100MB of memory. Every time I open a resource, this increases by 10-20MB (which already seems like a lot). Every time I close a resource memory isn't affected. If I repeatedly open and close the same resource, memory usage just keeps climbing. Once StencylWorks reaches the default JVM max heap size of 512MB, which happens pretty quickly, things (understandably) start moving really slowly. Closing a game has no effect on this, restarting SW is the only thing that helps.
Is it just me?

I doubt they cover things like this, but I've attached my logs just in case.

There's no book yet as far as I know, but there is the Stencylpedia.

Also, don't be afraid to just mess around!

If you go to the "Home" view of the Forge and press the "See All -->" link near the middle of the screen, it should show up as one of the first packs.

Something like this maybe?

Ask a Question / Re: No loop block

The first options under the "Playback" and "Channel specific" headers in the "Sound" category should both have a drop-down box where you can choose between "Play" and "Loop".

1) To learn about collisions, go through the Crash Course and Design Mode intro, both available from Help > Help Center.

2) There is a resource pack called Cutscenes which provides a lot of tools to do this. There's also an example game using the pack called Cutscene example game and a Guide to cutscenes.

3) For the example games, try using X or Z.

4) Find the Scene Switching Pack in the forge.

If you have a lot of short questions, you should try finding help in the chat. If you do make more topics, try choosing a more descriptive title - if you can't, you should probably be making several topics and split the question(s).

There is a behavior up on the forge called Disable Anti Aliasing, which may be what you're looking for.

... So you're using Stencyl as "Free Adobe Flash without vectors"?

When creating a behavior, you can choose "Code mode" instead of "Design mode". Both Flixel and Box2D are built in. As for including other libraries, I have no idea though I would wager that the answer is "yes".

Ask a Question / Re: Glow filter??
« on: June 16, 2011, 06:32:58 pm »
Just wanted to pop in and say I tried the glow filter, but have yet to get it to do anything. It's attached to an actor and I've played around with some of the variables, but I can't see any effect. Any idea why that may be?

I got it working pretty much out of the box. All I did was change the color to red, since my background is green...

Try values like (top to bottom): 1.0, 5, 5, white, false, false, 2, 2, because I have those working just fine right now.

Ask a Question / Re: Sound only works when published

Does this happen with every sound you add?

You might be able to get it in by closing and reopening the game, or restarting Stencyl.

Thank you for sharing your ideas. I implemented them and uploaded the new version, though unfortunately I couldn't make it update the old one.

Thank you very much! Next time I'll try being more general with my searches in the forge.

As for the modification, I figured it was a good way to start learning Action Script, so I went ahead and did it myself. It's in the forge with the name "Mouse Events on Visible Pixels". I credited you as "Alexin" - please let me know if you want another name there.

Again, thank you!
