Ask a Question / User input textbox
« on: April 13, 2012, 08:27:21 am »

I was wondering if there is any simple way i can create a "textbox" where the user can type in a Number (1-5 diggits) and when the user presses a "submit"-button, the input is saved as an attribute?
Is there a way i can solve this with blocks or do i have to write a code?

Seems to be a bug in Stencyl. After I have restarted the programm a couple of times the game works fine.

Hello everyone,

I have the following problem: Everytime I want to start my Game it gives me the following error:
TypeError: Error #1009: Der Zugriff auf eine Eigenschaft oder eine Methode eines null-Objektverweises ist nicht möglich.
   at scripts::MyAssets/loadScenes()[C:\Users\hp\stencylworks\preview\scripts\]
   at scripts::MyAssets/initAssets()[C:\Users\hp\stencylworks\preview\scripts\]
   at Function/<anonymous>()[C:\Users\hp\stencylworks\preview\scripts\]

First I thought this must have been something to do with an actor. But now I have just a plain white Scene with a background attached to it. That is everything I have in the "game". If I hit "Test Scene" it gives me the error.

I have started with a "Blank Game". Has it something to do with this, do I have to put some code in the game first? Every other game I've tried was created from a given structure.

In Stencyl 2.0 create a region at the bottom of the pit, once the actor enters the region transit to the next scene

I tested the game in Flash.

I've found the problem and fixed it. Now it works

Well most of it worked.

I have tried to play around with the "On Ground" and "Jumping"-behaviour. So far my Actor is only doing 2 jumps instead of unlimited, but still i am testing on getting it to 1 jump only.

My next question: Is there a way i can check WHERE a collision is made? Since the "On Ground" is set to true when the Actor touches a tile, the actor can now jump as much as he wants, when hitting the tile from the left or the right side, even when falling down a pit. Is there a way i can check only the collision on top of the tile?

Thanks for the response. I will try to play with those suggestions a bit.

I have added the following behaviors to my actor: Jumping, Walking, On the Ground, Animation Manager. Everythings (Walking, Jumping, Animations) works fine.

I need to fix the following things:
1. The Force, that pushes the Actor on ground seems to be a lot lower, than the force that pushes him left or right while in the air.
2. The Actor slides on the ground like he is on ice, when releasing the walking key.

Anyone have ideas on how to fix those things or at least where i can try to change different things? I have tried lower the Walking Acceleration, but then the Actor won't even move.

3. The precoded "Walking"-behaviour doesn't state a maximum Speed. Where can i set it?
4. When using the given "On Ground" and "Jumping" behavior my character can jump while in the air as much as i want. Where can i change this?

Hello everyone,

im pretty new to Stencyl. I did the Tutorial Game and now I am trying to make an own game.

I created an actor and assigned a few animations. Then i added the given Jump and Walking behavior. I assigned every keyboard button and did everything i did in the Tutorial, but when I test the current screen, the character won't move.

The actor XY is 78 pixels width. The actor only moves into the screen when i create the actor at x <= -73 pixels, so a little bit of the actor is seen on screen the whole time.

Sorry, I looked at the wrong line. Of course I have 1 for right and -1 for left

Okay, haven't thought abot that. Now I've tried the following:
Create XY at (x:100 y:242) at Middle
make Last Created Actor always simulate
set x to -100 for Last Created Actor

The walking in the XY-Actor walking behaviour:
if x of Self = -100
push Self gradually towards (xDir: -1  yDir: 0) at 20 force

The walking works fine when I am trying this inside the screen.

I have the problem, that an actor is created outside the screen (x=-100). Now the position is checked and if the position ist x=-100 the actor should begin walking into the screen (the check is used for later, when the actor turns around outside the screen). But the actor won't come into the screen. I tried it with x=50 or x=0 and it worked fine.
I have read that I should turn off gravity and use the "make self always simulate"-block, which i put under "when created" of the walking behavior. Still the actor won't move into the screen.

What am I doing wrong here?
