You can take it as far as you need to, and you could write this code so that it automatically selects the correct animation rather than having to write logic for each type of weapon.

For example, if all your animations were named like this "Unarmed Idle, Pistol Idle, Rifle Idle" and so on, and you had the current weapon stored in a text attribute, you can retrieve it and create a string.

See attached for the basic idea.
Thank you so much

The way I see it
Idle= Unarmed- Holding weapon- Aiming weapon- Shooting weapon
Walking= Unarmed- Holding weapon
Running= Unarmed- Holding weapon

There wont be too many weapons, just knife, pistol, rifle and bow
I definetly wont start with all this, but I just want to know how far I can take this

Ask a Question / Character Controller

How complicated can I make the controller? For example I want my player to have normal run, walk, shoot, etc controls, however I want  in between controls as well, for example walking with rifle, running with rifle etc. Is this possible? I understand all this requires extra sprites, but I don't mind.

Game Art / walk animation

Any ideas on how to make the animation less rigid. Im using 6 frames. Im using a 3d model so I could import more frames, but would that kill game performance?

This is awesome, i have in mind a very similar game, and i wasnt sure Stencyl was the right engine, but seeing this, has changed my mind.
Also let me know if you need help with art and sprites. Although im a traditional  artist, i have started learning pixelated art.

(Not a tile-based game, use the Custom Terrain tool!)

This should help you out.
Thank you very much

Ask a Question / Backgrounds and collisions

If i wish to use a background instead of tiles, how would i go about setting up collisions? Im working on a top down/isometric game, and i want to hand paint the background, reason for this, i dont want rpg maker look to my game. If i paint a rock or a cliff, can i manually assign collisions to these areas? Or could i make a layer on top of my background, inside a paint program and use that layer as collisions?

I downloaded Mario sprite of the Stencyl forge, it came with some behaviours but I deleted them all, might have to try with one of my custom characters

using my own character the controller works fine

here is the code,  changing physics, "affected by gravity" made no difference either.

Thank you for replying Luyren, i have however ran into a problem very early on. Following a youtube tutorial for a simple char. controller, it was very easy to duplicate it. However upon running the game left and right works fine, up and down nothing happens and once i do press up or down it screws up my left and right movements as well.  I get no errors, and this early on for a very simple script it’s very demoralising. Does anyone know what could be an issue?

Im sure you have been asked this many times before, Im just not sure how to search for such topics.
How far can you go with Stencyl? is this a lightweight engine for basic platformer games or can I make a complex game like Stardew valley, providing I had the knowledge, which I don't, at least not yet?
Publishing games to Steam for example? How does pricing work, can I make my game for free than subscribe for one year only? What happens to my game once I choose to end subscription, does it get deleted from steam, as I doubt many here would be making more than $99 a year on their games.
