Ask a Question / Best way to approach A* Pathfinding?

I've been doing a lot of reading into the A* Pathfinding, And it SEEMS like its something that can be done.

I know there needs to be a start node and an end node.
And then you need to find the neighboring nodes and get the distances, and set the parent to the lowest 'cost'

All that i can figure out eventually.

I do ask what the best way to begin organizing this is.
How do i go about setting up nodes?
How can i give a node address and a value (occupied, visited, closed, not occupied, etc etc) to a node?

Hey everybody!
I'm working on a simple RTS, and i have some autonomous resource gathering behaviors created.
Next steps are:
  • Grid-Based Building Construction
  • Unit Pathfinding
  • Military Units

Please let me know if you find any bugs or have comments / criticism.
This is pretty much just the foundation so far, and I'm still learning Stencyl, but I'm Making progress everyday, and hopefully i can update weekly.

Is it possible to get an attribute from an actor?
Say i have a scene behavior that clicks on an actor.
That actor has an attribute of "health"
Can i somehow reference that attribute without making it global?

Resolved Questions / Region Not found - Perfomance Issue? (SOLVED)

I have an actor that is looking to be selected upon a drawn region.
So the actor is constantly looking for the last drawn region, which i then delete after a unit is selected.
This action is for an RTS; drag a selection box around units to select them.
The Console is being flooded with "region not found" (or similar) messages and I'm wondering if there could be a performance drop if there are a lot of actors looking for a region that doesn't exist.

I ask this because I'm wondering if should change my "drag region to select units" behavior before i get too far into this game.

if you have a ">" conditional or a "+" block,
Have an option in the right-click dropdown menu to replace block with a block in a similar palette.

Example, Replacing > with < or + with -

Hello Everyone!

I'm very new to stencyl, and an amateur coder at best (worked with BASIC and Valve's Hammer Editor)
And I would like to learn stencyl by creating a basic RPG.

Honestly, i have 3 goals for this project before i try something harder

1)Create a unit at a building location via HUD button
2)Have the ability to select (click on unit) or deselect unit (click anywhere BUT the unit)
3)Command a unit or group of units to walk to a location (No pathfinding yet)

So far i can make an individual actor move to a certain location. That was my step one.
I'm having trouble however with unit selection.

How would i go about selecting an individual actor to give a command to?
