Ask a Question / Re: [Question] Numberformatting
« on: July 13, 2015, 08:55:58 am »
1. Okay, gonna try that...

2. I want to make long numbers short, for example: 1000000000 to 10^9
So it's easier to read.

Don't you need a studio license for that ?

already thanks for the help :)
My Testgame is coming along way better and faster than expected, but I am running into a problem and that is number formatting.

1. Problem
With already harmless multiplication and division I end up with wrong rounded numbers, so I use  floor/ceil... so far so bad.
How can I force the number to round to 2 decimals after the comma ?

2. Problem
How can I alter a number into scientific notation ?

Draw it at the desired x value minus the width of the drawn text. There's a block for the width of a given piece of text.

Nice idea!
But when I try that, it gives me an error:

edit: I understand the mainproblem, he doesn't accept numbers as text and wants it as a string/text but that would interfere with the variables/attributes

edit 2: Just tried to create a text attribute and set the getter for the numbervalue, to format it as a string, but that doesn't work too:

edit 3: Found the trick. "Anything as text" did the trick.
Thanks again for the width trick! :)

That I do not want to do, it looks bad the other way around... can't be that hard, normally texts have alignmentsettings... but I can't find any.

Hi there,

I got a problem. I got some text, as you can see it is the amount of money someone has, and this way it would fit just perfectly, but the problem is, that the numbers are alignt from left to right. Is there a way I can force a text to go from right to left ?

variable handling works like a charm now, at least on what I tried around :)
Now about placing stuff.

My Theory:  Create a Button and place it (Done, works !)
Instead of "drawing" to the scene itself, draw one variable onto the button, so that I can rearrange the whole scene and can drag and drop the buttons which also moves the vars, as they are bound to the button.
(Already working, too - this is really starting to get fun)
BUT I still will have to make the var-positioning "blind" by guessing the x/y coords.
Is there a way I can create a non-image actor that acts as "placeholder" for the positioning of those values on the button? Also would, if it is yes..., it be possible to make that placeholder look like it would have a set value to make a long-text positioning better and check if it fits ?

thanks for the answers already.
The draw works perfect, too bad I can't "preview" and adjust them on screen.

About the math..

This really doesn't work, even though the source code itself puts it into ( and )... Well..
How can I add them in the editor? As I can't find them...

What I am trying is: money = money + (poop * poopvalue)
Sorry for all those images, just wanna show where I look, in case I am doing something very wrong.
This already works way faster and easier then I thought, but I guess, when I go deeper I will die in variables :D

Well big is for me stuff like quadraquintillions and higher.
That option there... well... would be my very last resort lol

edit: Well it works already this way:

Okay, now I understand that and every block to add, is already virtually in brackets, if I understand it right. YAY!

I am trying to fiddle around a bit to understand Stencyl better before I actually try to build a real game together, but I am struggling a bit with the tutorials, so I hope you guys can help me out a bit.
( did not help me, maybe I clicked something wrong... sorry)

What I want to do is the following:
Every second check variable "poop" -> if "poop" >= 1 -> money = money + ("poop" x "poopvalue")
(Yes I have been veeeeery imaginative with my var names *cought*)
This looks already this way:

Might be wrong,  as I couldn't find any ( or ) functions, but the sourcecode has them included, so at least I hope it's the way as described :)

Where I am struggling now is to actually show that values on screen.

Also a little question at the side: can stencyl work with huge numbers?

Thanks for all tips :)
