Hey All,

I have a question about choosing your spine asset...

A player can chose any character they wish, and based on their choice, it will use a NEW json file with a different name (i.e. different spine).

My question is; how do I update the "Create new [Spine]..." automatically when the player changes to a different spine character?

I see that it uses the actual name of the 'anything' attribute rather than the value, so I cannot use other attributes to as a substitute.

I've also tried using the "get actor value [attribute] for [self]" block, but it doesn't seem to work either.

Is there anyway I can do this correctly and efficiently?

P.S. all spine .json files use the same animations (i.e. "idle", "attack", "left", etc.)

Hey All!

I have a question about the Spine2D extension (@robinschaafsma)...

I have a character in my mobile game which is broken into multiple pieces 8 ways (roughly 30 - 50 images). I eventually want to incorporate character customization, where the player can switch between different types of characters through the store (character skins). What would be the best approach for this?

A - To have all images in the one Spine2D skeleton. Doing it this way though, I'm afraid that it will lag like crazy when moving the character around and loading each image when needed.

Or...

B - Having multiple Spine2D skeletons which will act as each character skin.

Bear in mind that the character also has unique death animations (squished, sliced in half, electrocuted, etc.), so I would also have to have image skins which accommodate for these deaths as well.

The character will only change between skins when the game first loads and chooses which skin the player has chosen (similar to the custom jet pack system in Jetpack Joy-Ride).

Any advice on mobile optimization would be amazing!

Hey All,

(The original post is in 'Extensions which I believe is not the correct location for this question, so I shall post it here instead).

I'm currently using the ByRobin Spine2D extension, and am curious to know how to apply scaling for each mobile device. In the past I have used a 'Freeform' block for my images (image_API) to find any image with the file name ".....@1x.png", "....@2x.png", "...@3x.png", and so on based on the device used, which works perfectly! But I'm curious to know if there is a way to do this for Spine Assets as well. I have attached a few screenshots on what I have currently done for my spine assets. But if there is a way to use the correct scale for each mobile device, that would be awesome!

Ask a Question / Stretching an Actor based on Mouse X and Y

Hi there Stencylers!

A quick question; Is there a way to stretch an actor based on X and Y of the mouse while it stays in position?

Basically I have something similar to the old school Mario 64 game, where you can click on a part of the characters head and stretch it around the place, while that piece still stays in a same position.

Ask a Question / Simulator won't work anymore?

Hey everyone!

Lately, I have been having issues with the iOS simulator. For some reason, stencyl will not recognise the simulator on my mac book any more. I have tried multiple device simulators, but to no success. I still have the simulator on the mac, but I read up somewhere that they have changed the name to just "Simulator" rather than "iOS simulator". I tried to see if there was any software updates for the simulator, but I couldn't find anything.

I have attached the log files here. Hopefully it's nothing too dramatic, and an easy fix

According to Step 2 in the IAP iOS wiki, why does the IAP  'buy' block need to be in a Behavior rather than an event within a scene or actor? And if it needs to be in a behavior, which one; an actor or Scene behavior?

Ask a Question / iOS Test game not running

Hey everyone,
I've just got a problem setting up my test game for iOS. This is the first time for me to set up iOS, If it's something obvious, let me know. I've followed the iOS set up through stencyl as closely as I could, but when it's come testing my game, it throws an error message. Not sure whats going on with it, but I have generated a log from it. Hopefully it's a simple fix.

If anyone can help me, that would be great!

Ask a Question / Just quickly... (In-App Purchases - Android)

Hey everyone,

I don't want to take up too much time so I'll keep this short. I just want to know if I'm doing the right thing here in regards to Android In-App Purchases...

My main concern is that I'm not sure whether to add a 'do after' node after a 'consumable' is successfully purchased?

from what I have read in the 'In-App Purchases (Android)', are you supposed to:
- 'buy' a consumable (provided that the IAP is working correctly)
- check whether it was successful
- if so, then do after 2 seconds, 'use' the product and add the items manually?

and if it's purchasing an ad...

Also, am I right to assume these 'consumables' (besides the 'purchase_noads') are 'unmanaged', suggesting me to use the 'free unmanaged android purchase with ID:' node at the 'buy' section? Or should I use them at the 'use' section?

Am i Right with this? I have attached the screenshots to show what I have so far.

Ask a Question / Shrinking/Growing Spot Light effect mid scene

Hey everyone,

I know this question has been asked before, but I don't believe there was an option for mobile (only browser/flash player). So i figured I would ask again, but this time basing it for mobile.

I essentially want a shrinking/Growing 'Spotlight' effect midway through a scene (Spotlight shrinks at character > character moves to new location in scene > Spotlight grows from character's new location > continue play) like this - http://community.stencyl.com/index.php/topic,42119.0.html

I'm using 'Drawing Utilities' Extension, and using the same structure as this - http://community.stencyl.com/index.php/topic,42119.15.html

Now I have tried this on flash, and works fine, no problems, but when i try it on mobile, it only turns to black, and then back to normal with no transitions. Now i have heard that it kills the mobile performance according to another user, so not sure about that. But I was hoping there was another way I could accomplish this? I have looked into using 'Images', but it's difficult to find more information on this besides the 'Draw Image' Help page.

If someone could help me, that would be great! Again, hopefully this isn't a silly question :S.

Ask a Question / Reasoning why developers have two apps (paid and free)?

Hey Everyone,

I'm curious to find out why developers have two apps for their games (free-to-play, and paid). Now I know that most games are bought  to remove ads which i understand, but why not have that feature built in a 'store' within the free-to-play game?

I personally feel like it's more convenient for consumers to purchase 'no-ads' within their originally downloaded game, rather then having to download the game again, and loosing all their time and progress which had been invested in their original download?

Does the reason have something to do with the Ad revenue (such as paying for ad's that you aren't showing or something similar to that)? Or maybe it's due to hackers being able to crack your game easier if the options built in?

Just curious to know why developers release two types of the same app purely for 'Ad removal', rather than incorporating it into one game? Seems like a poor metric to me, but that's only because i don't understand it fully.

Sorry if this has been answered before, but I couldn't think of a way to explain this in google haha.

I've been playing around with AdMob and all that, but nothing with the settings or JDKS.

Hey Guys,

This is my first time using AdMob in my game, so i want to make sure its set up correctly. I do have a few areas i'm not sure on, but I'll try and flesh them out here.

What i have done so far is:
- Sign up for AdMob
- linked my AdMob Project with Firebase (which is now a requirement?)
- have my app ID set up, as well as my Project name and Project ID set up on the firebase webpage.

Now my first little hiccup; do i copy/paste the 'app ID' or the 'publishing ID' into Stencyl>settings >mobile>monetization>AdMob (which ever ad i have set up, which in this case is 'Interstitial')? Because doing so doesn't seem to do anything (image provided).

I assumed it was the actual App ID (i.e. "ca-app-pub-46093772...") in to the 'AdMob Interstitial Android Key'.

continuing on...

- I've followed all the instructions on the AdMob Page:
   -  Download the Google Mobile Ads SDK.
   -  Follow the SDK integration guide. Specify ad type, size, and placement when you integrate the code.
       App ID: ca-app-pub-46093772...
    - Click here to start downloading the config file from the Firebase console. You'll use this at the end of the next step.
       Follow the Firebase integration guide to implement the Firebase SDK in your app.

I'm currently up to where I had to install 'Android Studios'. I have never used this before, and i don't really plan to use it beyond setting up Ads.

Now according to AdMob/Firebase, i had to download a 'google-services.json' file.

At this point, I'm not sure where to place this file? It says in the 'app' source folder, but i do not have one?

I feel a little silly if this is a simple guide, but I'm finding myself a little lost with this process. Hopefully i haven't installed/proceeded beyond what i need to in order for my Ads to show up in my Stencyl project.

All i wish to achieve is creating a simple 'full screen (interstitial) Ad' that cannot be skipped until it has finished, on a button press to receive an extra gift.

I hope this threat wasn't too convoluted and i hope it is a easy/simple process to implement this type of thing.

Hopefully this will be quick. If someone is in the middle of a level, and decides to quit mid way through, how would you make sure they lost a life when they close the game?
