Upgrading player help?

I have a game im making where you can upgrade your player, but for each upgrade your armor changes, ive thought about making a ton of actors that create and kill to controll that but that would be hard, time consuming, and laggy, how else can I do this?

Should I use an actor for the armor or what?

You can, but there's a smart way to do it.

Ever seen Abigayl's lagless actor tutorial? Create an actor for the armor, keep it offscreen, and draw its sprite over your player actor's sprite. Adds virtually no overhead whatsoever, and keeps you from having to keep track of two objects.
In the event of a firestorm, the salad bar will remain open.
