My advice to anyone working on large scale projects is to invest some time predicting all the things that can go wrong and checking for them in each critical function/script you write. The extra time spent doing this early on will pay off in improved sanity later

Thanks for the comment!
I will keep this in my mind more going forward and apply it. I started implemented tiny checks like this which help already:

But having almost like a console or error messages might eb a very good idea.
I have no clue thought how to adress problems like the sound issue because i dotn even know how to measure it.
Thanks!

Hi Space Pirates!
i wanted to give you a tiny update and let you know that all levels are done and i am now pulling it all together. Embedding all texts, connecting the levels and making it basically all work.
I will add the sidestories once the main game works fine.

Some mutation going on:

Take care!

Good Morning!
It is a bit ironic when you realize that the toughest enemy in the game is actually kind of cute :)
Have a good day!

Dear Stencyl Forum!

this year has been quite a blast!
I worked on this game almost every day for around 2-6 hours.
Rest of my time i worked to make a living and well there is also a social life :)

I am happy with the progress especially because i am on the finishing line.
I think a few more months and i am done. The game is fully playable but needs polish.

What next?

I will move to "beta" early next year and compile a proper new demo version.
You can ask me anytime for a test version though if you are interested btw.

I want to produce a soundtrack for the game early next year (so far 5 songs i made are in) and do another pass on sound effects. I added last week around 25 new ones especially for the robots. They used human sounds so far and i am happy to have finally robot sounds in. It does make a difference ;)

I also need a logo and marketing material which i will slowly start to work on, set up a website and create a press info. I will slowly start to reach out to press, youtube and so on. I am keeping this game under the radar on purpose because i think that players loose interest if it takes too long to come out from the first time the heard abou it.

And then?

Oh sweet creative thoughty. Should i even think about it? Well, i am. Thinking ahead i might do a small game after releasing this one but i think (if i get good feeback and reviews) that i will do a second part. I spend a lot effort on the system and it would be nice to focus "only" on new content for a while :)
Welk, lets see!

Me, the NPS's and enemies of this game wish you a fantastic holiday break. A nice christmas (if you celebrate it), take care of your family and friends, dont be selfish adn ahve a good time!"

This is space ship commander Bombini signing off for this year. Maybe ;)

Thanks a lot!
I am currently turning one bigger cluster of events (for the side communications)  into a behaviour which is painful but needed.
This might eb the last big painpoint. Lets see.

Also startscreen:

Cheers guys!

Title screen looks great! I think it is very fitting and color scheme looks good.

Minor quibble: the trails of smoke look like mountains to me, but I don't think that's the intent. If they were trails of smoke from the engine then I'd expect either for them to get smaller as they near the planet--not bigger, or for there to be more visual separation between the smoke and planet surface so they don't look like they're touching. This effect is most noticeable to me on the right, where the clouds and smoke have the same color.

It does look amazing. To me it looks like smoke trails, but maybe the two ships at the back should have trails too.

Bonjour all you Space Pirateros!

Today is a very important day. I finished the side conversations behaviour which has been the most complex behaviour i ever created. It was a mess of half working events now tunred into a fine working behaviour. But...i will never ever create such a thing again (on the other side my skills improved a lot going through this). It was so painful. My brain still hurts ;)
But let me explain what and why.

Each story mission has a briefing and a debriefing each with one dialogue with as much NPCs joining the dialoge as i like. Some of the NPCs have up to 7 personal conversations (dialogues) which are about the background and the motivations of the NPC. These unlock in specific missions. You can consume them to a certain degree but you dont have to.

Let me give you an example: The player is in story mission 8. Lets call the NPC Susan. Susan has 6 personal conversations in total and the player unlocked personal conversation 1 in mission 2, personal conversation 2 in mission 4 and personal conversation 3 in mission 5. The player could consume onepersonal conversation in mission 2, 4 and 5 or all 3 in mission 5 and higher.

The system has to keep this all in mind, load the right text and control various animations in a lot different actors. But...i am happy that its done. It adds a lot flavour to the game and makes the NPCs more belivable. This brings me much closer to the Beta which i want to have in a couple of weeks.

I started setting up a website for the game and i started working on the presskit before i start working on the soundtrack. Have a great weekend,
Bombini signng off!

Main dialogue, followed by personal conversation. Three different NPCs offer a personal conversation (which could be followed by another personal conversation for one NPC) in this example:
