Never made a dev log before  :o

Now I have a bit more free time I thought I would try it out for size.

This is Big Shot Boxing. It started of as an arcade boxing game where you just have 2 inputs, uppercut and move back. After playing around with it for a while I felt it was a bit too repetitive so have expanded it into a reasonably full featured boxing game.

Its still very arcade in how it controls but now it has 3 punch types (Jab, Cross, Uppercut) and you can block. All the punches move you forward and the block moves you back.

The GIF below shows the stun mechanic, at any stage of the game you can get hit by a punch and become stunned, If you get hit again while stunned you will get knocked down. Every time you get knocked down there is an ever increasing risk that you will stay down and lose the fight.

That will do for post one, ill go into more detail about the games mechanics in the next post.

That's pretty neat. I especially like the mouth guard flying out.

Ive been plugging away at this, the career mode is taking a lot of work, thankfully SadiQ is around to help me with the lists.

the below GIF shows a mechanic that I think will be pretty controversial, You can knockout your opponent or get Knocked out yourself by any power punch at any stage. potentially you could get Knocked out with the very first punch of the fight. In video game terms this is pretty bad game design, but in the sport of boxing, it happens all the time. I am making an effort to bring in as many aspects of the sport of boxing as I can.

Its really going to annoy the type of players who will reset the game if they get a loss, the type of people who rage quit on fifa if they concede a goal. I actually quite like the aspect of being really under powered and eventually scraping through to a title win with 10 losses on my record.

Personally, I do not care for games that are based solely on RNG. I don't really care if I win or lose. However, if I keep losing because the RNG are not in my favor, I will delete the game. If you want a powerful punch to happen at anytime randomly, I would suggest putting in some visual cue. In Mike Tyson's Punchout, there were cues for all of the fighters' super attacks. Some of the cues were actually in the audience.

Yeah it's definitely not a mechanic everyone will like, the odds are the same for player and AI so you will benefit from it as much as you will be punished by it. The cues in this case are the wind up of the punch, as you get better at the game you can start to read the punches, and if you box more sensible and controlled there is a reduced chance of getting hit and getting KOd. But you will never be able to identify a KO punch as it will look exactly the same as a standard power punch.

I'm a big fan of randomness, adds excitement and crazy moments. I've had moments when I was losing a fight badly then in the last few seconds landed a big shot and won by KO, I jumped out of my chair!

I noticed the randomness in Dunkers and Wrassling, and I do agree that it adds some excitement. :)

Haha no, definitely won't like that. But like Ceosol said, it adds a degree of excitement :) Also great to see that you are doing a journal for the first time, this is gonna be interesting! Twitch stream up next perhaps?
