Is Flash dead? no, no its not.

Ive seen people saying it a few times in the forums recently. Flash is not in a great place, especially with the FGL flash marketplace being shut, but its definitely not dead, yet. Looking at the stats from my sponsored games this year, they are still getting millions of plays. Wrassling for example has around 6million plays in 8 months on one site, even with ad block, the portals are still making money.

I have actually made more money from flash this year than any previous years. 2 major portals have e-mailed me in the last year asking for games, another regular portal I've been working with for a couple of years is looking for games. Im wondering if there is even a bit of a shortage of flash games after so many devs have moved away from the platform.

I make an average of $1800 per game, its not crazy money but still very much worth the effort in my opinion.

If you have perviously made money from flash games but now are finding you can't sell games anymore, Id be interested to here about it.

If you think you have a decent flash game and want to try to get it sponsored then get in touch.

If you just like to talk about "flash is dead" but have never tried to get a game sponsored, please shhhhhh  ;D

From FGL's blog post about shutting down the marketplace:
Quote
There was a time, years ago, where we would see developers using FGL making over $400,000 a month with Flash games.  Last month, we saw closer to $5,000.

As it is known, Flash and Java and Unity Web Player and Microsoft Silverlight have declined because they require the installation of plugins. And this has started since Apple decided to abolish the use of this in their smartphones. They also talked about security issues and etc. And currently these technologies are disabled by default in browsers like Google Chrome.

Over time, HTML5 canvas are developed and perfected, and today is able to do just about anything Flash did.

That's why most developers today have abandoned Flash. Because, besides that, publish a game on a website as HTML5, the advantage is that the game also can be accessed by Smartphones and Tablets.

But Flash is not dead. Just as Elvis Presley also not.

Yeah I understand the big money is gone, and I don't think Flash as a main source of income has much life left in it. However if that quote means people can still make $5000 a month with flash then that is pretty sustainable for a lot of people.

My main point is, from what I can tell, apart from the FGL marketplace closing, Flash is no more dead now than it was last year or even the year before. Im interested to hear if there are any stencylers who have been working with regular portals who are now saying  "sorry, flash is dead, we can't pay for games"

Well I'm sitting here with Flash portals paying me $1800 for a flash game, with other portals e-mailing me asking for more games. Ive not had a single inquiry about HTML5 versions of my game. Im selling to miniclip, 2player.com, Addicting games.

Can you tell me who the top HTML5 sponsors are and what they pay on average?

Miniclip, 2player.com, etc. are probably already migrating to HTML5. Otherwise they will disappear like Mochi.

Just talk with them. Because, probably in their minds they think: anyone who makes Flash games, no does HTML5.

That article is from April 2015? if i visit miniclip.com on my phone I just get taken to a page of there mobile downloads, don't see any HTML5 games I can play on my device..  Miniclip make a fortune from mobile games. What do you mean talk to them? just last week I thanked my miniclip contact for a great year, he said he was looking forward to more games from me next year. Ill ask him about Flash vs HTML5 out of interest.

That's $5000 in total, not per dev.  Of course that's only the FGL numbers and ignores off site deals.  Maybe the sales decline from off site deals has been less severe.

Yeah! This discussion is old. Because currently hardly anyone else talks about Flash.

Yes, I read Matts blog aswell, people can click the link if they want to see the list.

My point was you linked an article about HTML5 coming to miniclip yet over a year and half later it hasn't happened yet.

This discussion is not about HTML5 anyway, its point was to make people aware that there is still money to be made in flash and sponsors are actively seeking games.

Ok. Then It would be interesting to ask why.

For example, these days I did a research about ranking and found out that about 40% of the visits in Newgrounds are games with adult content.

Ranking Comparison:

Newgrounds
Total Visits: 15.10M

Miniclip
Total Visits: 21.40M

Y8
Total Visits: 32.80M

Friv
Total Visits: 85.50M

I know! I was being silly, no offense intended.

It just amuses me that you used a lot of words to tell someone who literally works with Mini Clip what you think Mini Clip maybe possibly does or thinks.

Okay. It just was not clear it was a joke.
