Stencyl 3.0 - Design Once. Play Anywhere. (Soft Launched on Feb 20th)

;) is there any exact date of release?
Quarter 1 2014 is the most specific answer I've seen.

Jon said it would be in a few days, when they put up the new site, but it is also good to keep him and the team from continuous pressure about it when they are hard at work(as mentioned before).

@Photics - 2D lists are not part of Stencyl. It's just a user-created extension at this point.

At this point, I'm not going to pre-announce a release date. Instead, we're going to soft-launch it soon, sans the hype, rather than try to open the floodgates all at once.

Nooooooooooooo!  :o

I think "tables" are one of the few significant advantage GameSalad has over Stencyl.

I think Stencyl could use some more hype! This upgrade has been in the works for years. It seems like a reason to party!

Thanks! We're soft launching the new site and Stencyl 3.0 to give it a weekend to work out the kinks before we go fully public with it.

That said, Newgrounds will be kicking off a big Stencyl jam tomorrow, so it's not going to be *too* quiet.

Well, I was browsing the forums, writing replies and in a sudden, everything looks different. Can you imagine my surprise? :-)

Good Luck, Jon and all people behind the scenes!
Sure, my games won't get better with all the new features of Stencyl.
But I do have more fun creating bad ones.

Hi,

New there but was wondering if Stencyl was dead (useless opinion) :p
This beta release is great.
And the lifting of the website, wahoo, amazing :)

I'm actually trying Construct 2 but knowing that Haxe is in there, I will get a new try at Stencyl (still better for creative mobile apps than HTML5).

Great job guys.

Hey!!!!! 3.0!

Congrats guys, I know you have been working on this for a while.  New site looks awesome, but is familiar enough to be instantly usable.  I am really excited to try out the new version.

Oh kah tee! Stencyl 3.0 finally made it out!  :D

I just returned to resuming a 3 year old prototype (it's not made with this engine, though, and it's certainly not for the computer I normally use), and I have a backlog of game ideas that I still have, three of them with prototypes made with previous versions of Stencyl (and a fourth one made with Flash). There's at least ten of them, some of them being considered for Stencyl.

I'm also looking at giving 65C816 assembly a shot, as I have some SNES game ideas as well.

Don't completely know if I'll make it completely out of game development dormancy yet, though...

Oh, and you're back to OGG (except for Flash)! Well, well, well, just like the old times!

And you want to give sequenced music a shot? I'm a composer of a bunch of IT music, so why not?  ;)
Hi, all! I'm KungFuFurby, music composer. If you're looking for some music for your game, just PM me.

The Linux download link doesn't seem to work for me (the link leads to a completely blank page). Has anyone tried downloading the Linux version?

People weren't joking when they said EXE compiling is a long process! I'm happy the end result is so stable...

The scene designer seems to collapse the dashboard now, doesn't it? I don't recall that happening before. Those kind of small undocumented changes are often pleasant to find. :D

The windows exe compile sometimes takes a while, but that's usually just on the first time, subsequent compiles are faster. I've been testing the exe a lot lately and found it seems quite viable for even a bit higher scope, higher res games than I previously thought.

Only thing to be careful about is use of the apply effect block on big actors (big as in more than usual sprites/animations) isn't very efficient and may cause some stuttering. This is a known issue and hopefully will be improved in the future.

I was actually going to, but for reasons I can't disclose, I'm holding on to the old site for a few days more.

It looks like the new site is here and Stencyl 3.0 launched.  That undisclosed information is still intriguing though. Although, it's nice to be done with secrets. Now that Stencyl 3.0 is out, I don't have to worry about the NDA anymore.

That said, Newgrounds will be kicking off a big Stencyl jam tomorrow, so it's not going to be *too* quiet.

That's nice to see, Stencyl mentioned right at the top of the site.

It's looking like good days for Stencyl.

It looks like the timing of the Interactive Stencyl Textbook is pretty good too. I'm getting close to the finish line.

Stencyl, a story of patience and persistence.  :D
