The migration to OpenFL has gone quicker and smoother than expected. I will be sending out a preliminary beta release for customers to vet this weekend.
No ill feelings intended, but I have a feeling you wish you'd done that switch a long time ago, huh?

I wish it were simple enough to say that, but it's not quite so simple. OpenFL was rough around the edges at the outset and still has rough edges. I wouldn't have wanted to commit to a migration only to then find out key functionality was broken. Even today, there is one key feature that's broken (sound playback on mobiles) but is promised to be fixed for the final, non-beta release.

As scheduled, a beta of the OpenFL-based Stencyl went out to customers on Saturday. They are now checking it out. I think we'll have a clear picture this coming week of what the impact will be.

So does that mean the public beta should be released soon?

Unfortunately there are still memory leaks, although some tests are showing better performance than the previous NME version.  Also, sound isn't fully implemented in OpenFL 1.1, and we have to wait for the OpenFL developers to fix that.

My assessment is that when the basics are resolved and we all feel good about this new OpenFL-based branch, I'd be comfortable with issuing a public beta of 3.0, even if there are still some niggling issues. So far, it's looking promising.

Great! Stencyl 3.0 works pretty great as is, but when it goes public it'll become even more stable due to the bug testers growing exponentially.

So we can be expecting a beta in a couple weeks?

Weeks would be optimistic largely because only a limited portion of customers have tested it so far, but the initial take is still promising. We're on target to put it out before the year is up.

We're waiting on one key missing feature before we're able to move forward and make the move over to OpenFL official. The main dev is excited about our sudden adoption and has been working closely with me this week.

What's the difference between publish to iOS (ad-hoc) and publish to iOS (App Store)? What's ad-hoc? Will non-paying members ever be able to publish to the app store?

Ad-hoc is a way to share your app with other devices without going through the App Store.  It's mostly used for testing.  I doubt non-subscribers will ever be permitted to publish apps.

Bear in mind that even if we were to ever offer iOS publishing in the free tier, it wouldn't be a zero-cost option since you'd still have to pay $99 to Apple for the privilege of testing a game on your device, let alone publish to the store.

A major memory leak in 3.0 has finally been stopped, and it was related to the actors and the tweening library.  There are still issues to work out with OpenFL, a few of them being third party problems, so there won't be a public release just yet.

Great news about the memory leak.

I've seen that OpenFL 1.1 is out now. Did they fix the audio problems (on iOS)? How's Stencyl progressing?
