[Animation request] My "pixel-art" sprite.

Hi ! I'm quite new on Stencyl and I'm really bad at making sprites and animations. Yesterday I made a little sprite for my hero, and tried to animate it but without result, it was so ugly.
Here is my sprite :
http://www.noelshack.com/2012-24-1339581191-SpriteHeros.png
Yep, my sprite looks bad too. But I pretty like it, he's cute, and it's my first sprite ever.
So I was wondering if you could make me/help me making a running animation for him. 4 frames would be great I think. FYI it's 64x64 pixels.
Thanks a lot in advance.
PS : Sorry for my english.

You could start by looking at some walk cycles or doing overlays over another animation ?
Here's one image I didn't draw but I found it really helpful to look at:

Thanks for your answer.
Actually I watched a lot of videos and pictures about making a walking/running animation, but for some reason I can't draw my character in this positions.. I don't know what is wrong with me, I don't have any problems with making idle characters, like the one I posted, but I can't make a character in a special position.

If your are doing bitmaps you could try graphicsgale.
You could start with animating a stick character and then drawing on top of the stick frame afterwards.

I'm using Paint.net for drawing my sprites. ^^
I already animated a stickman ( But it was really hard for me ) but drawing my sprite on the stickman seems impossible to me.. I tried like 10 times and couldn't make anything.

One of the benefit of graphicsgale is that you can see the animations, while you draw. Another is it has a nice palette setup. I can only recommend that you try it, since it's free...
Anyway, I'm probably not a good teacher. I've actually only done two sprites in my life.
Here
is my second attempt (it's an animated png , might not work in all browsers). After a while, while trying to make a third I realized how hard it would be and decided to learn blender. It has taken me over a week to get through a tutorial on character modeling and armatures (bones), so only today am I close to begin animating it.

I'm not an artist, but maybe the problems you have are because for one, your character is shown from an angle, not directly from the side. And second, it looks like a little bit like a Lego man (which is not a bad thing per se), but I image that makes it hard to animate him.

Sorry everybody I wasn't home this week-end, and thanks for all your answers.
@hansbe : Google chrome can't load it unfortunately. :/ But I'll be glad to see what you do with blender, I tried some years ago but it was hard !
@captaincomic : You're totally right, the biggest difficulty is his angle. :/
@Medevenx : I'm just like "Oh. My. God." It looks absolutely beautiful. This is the kind of character I wanted to make, but I hardly failed. This.Is.So.Amazing.

hey Banana, that static design of yours is great. Keep it up man! I'm also a newbie but any way this is what i'm following to try my first pixel art attempts:
I want to draw/animate with a pretty simple tool that allows to change between frames with cursors, it's called Aha-Soft IconXP (an icon editor but you can make whatever size image, you might wanna try it ^^)
And a couple of tutorials I have found useful:
http://games.ucla.edu/resources/walk-cycles/
http://ilovepixel.net/tutorial.html
this last one is in spanish but the google translation is pretty good:
