Hey All,

I'm pleased to announce my very first ever video game!  It's called "Water Drop Game" and you can play it here:

http://www.stencyl.com/game/play/13158

(UPDATE:  I've made many changes and fixes.  The game is essentially finished and working.  I may revisit it later and make some changes and add some things, but right now I just want to let it be for a while and focus on something else.

I have address the complaints about it being to difficult, however some who have played this update still seem to find it to be too "hard".  I prefer the term "challenging"  ;D and I can assure you, with a bit of practice you will find it much less "hard".  If this continues to be an issue, I may make some changes to make it bit less challenging.

That's for now.  Hope you all enjoy Water Drop Game!  Yeti Ball out!)

In Water Drop Game, you play as Droppy, the intrepid little dew drop as he tries to escape the rays of the rising morning sun which spell certain evaporation! Along the way he will collect rain drops and bounce on flowers, while avoiding obstacles.

It is the first game I have ever created. It represents my interest in learning more about game design and the wonderful tool that is Stencyl.  Made in my free time over the course of a couple weeks. The game is mostly finished at this point, although a few of the graphics are still placeholders.

All of the artwork and (I'm very pleased to say) probably about 90% of the programming was created by yours truly.  Two weeks ago I had zero understanding or knowledge of programming, but slowly, during the development of this game I feel I am beginning to get at least a basic understanding of how it works and for me this is very exciting!

Please PLAY! I hope you enjoy the game and would greatly appreciate any feedback, critiques or suggestions!

(And don't forget to share and Like  8))

Best,
YB

Congratulations! It's really well-made game. Pretty hard though, you may want to make the start easier (more plants to jump on?). Especially since the graphics imply that it's casual, easy game. Ofcourse the difficulty can and should increased later in game.

Thanks for the feeback froz.  The difficulty curve is one of the things I agree might need tweeking.  Do to the fact that the player can die when he falls off the bottom OR bounces up off the top of the screen, I've tried to have just the right amount of platforms so that you can (with a bit of practice) stay in the center pretty easily.

I'm afraid that if I added more platforms it would be perhaps easier not to die in the bottom, but it would ALSO be easier to become overwhelmed and pushed up to the sky.

Since (at the moment) the game only has one level, I wanted it to sufficently challenging so that players, with practice, could start improving their skills and score (kind of like old game's from the 80's that made up for their lack of lenght in terms of number of levels with sometimes brutal difficulty  8)  )

Well, currently I feel that at the beggining there is no risk on going too much up, unless you hit literally every plant for first 10 seconds and it's very hard if you play for the first time. Later on there are more plants and it is in fact easier to not die (it is easier to go too much up, but that's not so big problem, avoiding plants is easier then jumping on them).

You should check the sound settings, it seems to be bugged. When I click on the note (in menu), it starts the game without sound. IMO it should just set sound to off and do not start game (more intuitive). That's not the bug though - the bug is I can't switch sound on again. If I start game later, it is always without sound, no matter if I click the start leaf or the leaf with note.

Froz you're right, I'm guessing it has something to do with the collision boxes or the layers of the Play Button and the Sound Button overlapping.  Thanks for the heads up.

For now, if you want to turn the sound on again, after you die on the Game Over screen, if you click the upper right hand corner of the Sound Button, I was able to get it to toggle on and off.

I will fix this all ASAP.

One more bug report. When 2 plants are close to each other, one under the another, when you hit the lower plant first, then you can hit the other plant from bottom. If that happen, the collision event is triggered not once, but for every tick when the drip is on the leaf. It wouldn't matter much if not the sound - it's started every tick, which doesn't sound nice :).

- The collision shape of the begin button overlaps with the mute button. This causes sometimes that the sound will not be played even when the graphic has changed.
- The youtube button doesn't seem to work or the twitter button shape overlaps it.
- The facebook share link is for stencyl and not for your website/other site. Maybe this was not planned.

Very nice game with the right resolution for an ios game. I think it'll be very popular when you publish it. The graphics and the gameplay are great.

As others mentioned, I would slightly rise the jump strengh or use a bit more flowers/petals at the beginning, because the beginning is very hard.

Hi,

I have only had a very quick play with your game, and it looks great; I really like the graphical style.

Just a couple of comments: On the help screen, you have mistyped "shrink". Also (and I have found this with a lot of games), when a game finishes, I have to take my hands of the keyboard to move the mouse to click on 'play'. It might sound very trivial, but I'd like to just press 'space' (or another key) to start the game again; it slows the game-play down and is more likely to drive me to try a different game instead.

Don't be disheartened! They are only minor points, and I'll definitely play it again when I have time. I'll also get my kids to give it a try!

Love the cartoony style and the water drop!
I would like to make three points:

can't see far enough ahead to anticipate leaves,
it would be fun adding the possibility of a short jump after bouncing,
maybe the lateral movement/falling is too slow

The foreground leaves on the side make things a bit difficult to see, especially if you're going to be a small drop jumping from one side of the screen to the other via offbounds.

The rest of my complaints/glitches have already been addressed by others.

The game is pretty sweet overall.

Sweet! +2
But too hard! -1
And there should be levels so you can get a reward every now and then for good behavior in the game! ;)

Maybe you can make some pickups to give Drip some special abilities for a few seconds? Like the droplets could make him a bit bigger, and maybe something else could make him a bit slower (umbrella?).

Hey everyone,

Thanks for all the feedback!  I've run into some technical difficulties (you can read about them here, if you are so inclined http://community.stencyl.com/index.php/topic,11581.new.html#new), but I hopefully will get a chance to implement some of your suggestions and fix up some of the more glaring issues!

idea to add some "strategy" to the game:
what if each type of leaf/flower/animal had different height/direction to rebound the drop ?

The graphics are amazing, and the gameplay is a unique twist in a genre similar games like Doodle Jump. Very well done :)
