We should make a list to all the handy resources out there, so we can have them all in one place!  Suggest away, and I'll add them.

Good links can be to anything that would help with game design.  This includes free sound or graphics resources, free or affordable programs for graphic/audio editing, articles on game design, etc..

[$$$] - NOT Free

Has some free to use sprites, they just ask that you don't sell the sprites themselves.
Sorry if this link is already on a page that's been mentioned but I haven't been through them all yet.

Royalty Free Music, it costs to License but what I've looked at it seems reasonable.

Another good source for free sounds. freesound.org

Here's another one, now a Google Chrome app called Pixlr, an online photo editor that has a lot of nice features like transparency, layers, filters, create and customize your own brush, a nice color selector and many more.

Now hold on there partner, I reckon http://www.graphicsforgames.com is a straight shooter and has all the graphics for your needs.  And for free assets http://www.roencia.com.  Take a look at these:

2D Graphic Designer -who delights in making sprites in strange and unusual ways.

I've got a new game asset store with a weekly 'freebies' section that might be good to add to your list: http://www.indiegamedesigner.com/blog/

Hope it's helpful!

I just realised my name is still on the list as "free".
*blushes*
I don't do music for free any more, and to use my stuff that isn't already on StencylForge will cost you. I write music for games on a commission basis too though.

You don't have to take my name off the list, just add the "[$$$]" sign I guess.
Thanks. :)
