An RPG idea

I have no idea what to call it at the moment. For the past few months I've been working on a rpg game and I've gotten to the point where I have the mechanics done(well sort of).

Here are some screenshots of it.

Windmills n' grass

Basic blob enemies

Leveling Up (It isn't in the image, but melee and mage also level up). The blue stuff is exp.

Last, but not least: the menu! I'll clean it up sometime!

I'll be improving it slowly over time and someday I will figure out a name for it. Thanks for reading!

Update: New Menu and UI because the old one dropped the frame rate down a bit. Cutscene dialogue is added. And trees.

I think I'll be making this a roaming game sort of like a tale of colors and william and sly on newgrounds. It'll include combat and different weapons.

I'm assuming this is in the prototype stages but visually it looks pretty neat so far. What are you using to make the trees and grass?

I don't know how final your artwork is, but there is some inconsistency at the moment. Specifically, the soft trees and grass don't match the blocky sky background and other elements (dialog and menu text also). Also, the "dirt" texture is repetitive on such a small scale it makes it also detract heavily from the softer, organic elements.

Hey guys! Thanks for the crit, I'll be especially touching up on the art. I am using photoshop for the art, but I can't seem to balance my light, darks, and strokes carefully. Do you have any tips on the art for the enemies? That's my most weak point. Thanks, I'll go try to fix the art and that darn white stain on that tree that is sticking out.

Holy poopadoodle i love the grass. I don't think the inconsistency of the blocky sky matters, it's a windy place, deserves a difference, i like it. The grass is just so good though.... Unlike a lot of grass in games it feels like it has substance, doesn't look like the combover of an old man.
Gotta agree with the repetitive dirt texture though. Add 2 more slightly differrent tiles to mix it up.:)

Thank you for the tips. I updated the background, trees, and font. I'm really going to try to fix the dirt, I promise!

That background makes a big difference. Just wish the brush strokes that makes the trees didn't go in the same direction. The Ground also needs a fix so it matches everything else.  But that's a great start point.

Definitely need to blend the dirt and grass together.. also it'd be cool to have a back layer to the grass (which i also think needs to be a smidgen smaller) so that you can see grass in front of AND behind the character. That's what I'm doing in a platformer I'm very slowly working on haha

Then again looking at it, you've used the grass brush so much that it might look overwhelming if you do that.. just a thought though. :p definitely looking good so far. can't wait to see it finished!

Thanks guys. I'm trying to fix up the tileset. I've also been thinking about adding water, so after a quick search I found this post: http://community.stencyl.com/index.php?topic=1739.0 and tried to replicate what greg did. The physics are a bit duller than his, but this is what I have so far:

EDIT: I managed to draw the water

This is cool, Although, maybe  you should start working on your characters. If they look as half as cool as the backgrounds, it will be awesome.
