@marcumgames - Thank you very much :) it won't be out for some time, still in the planning stage.

--

Thanks for the link rob1221, it does look a little complicated, and yeah like ipe said, the overlapping lights will be a problem, ill more than likely be needing that to happen.

But yeah for now i guess i won't touch lighting at least till i get the game it self up and running.

and rob, i thought of an idea for light, but it would be square instead of circle, like how 'Rougelike' games do it. For example have every tile have a black actor, and delete/make transparent the ones around the player/light sources. If you get what i am saying.

But the only problem i see is lag for having too many actors. You think it's a good idea?

Performance will take a hit, but if you don't have too much else going on it may not be too bad.  If the game is for Flash only you could use the tile API.

Yeah the game is for flash only, and the tile API looks like a good idea, i'll have to take a look at it, and experiment with it to figure it out.

Is it even possible with flash/stencyl? XNA is a completely different engine for C++ C#  and all that, so not quite sure.

Oh, XNA is an engine? Hm :/ In the end, all it really boils down to is maths, so i presumed you could just convert it to actionscript pretty easy XD

Yeah i guess that makes sense lol still gonna take a while to figure it out though. But yeah lighting is going to be the last thing i worry about for now, want to get the base game up and running first lol. Ergh this battle system, and the A.I. is gonna be so time consuming

Thanks BindOnAccount :) It is going to be a really long process to make this, I've had this idea for quite some time only just got the motivation to do it.

Doing everything myself is going to be such a long process, but a great learning experience. I figure if i do this, i can build some kind of portfolio and then get to working with other people. I hope i don't burn out lol

A friend of mine found this tutorial on dynamic shadows:
http://forums.tigsource.com/index.php?topic=8803.0

Its an excellent tutorial with theory, examples, and even source-code. It is also based of of AS3 and Box2D, so it will integrate very easily with Stencyl. Having said that, it is still a very complicated task, but definitely doable with patience.

Thank you so much for that coleislazy, dynamic shadows would add so much to this game, and with this it actually looks doable. It will take some time to make this work properly though, but I reckon I could do it.

Looks like ill be making a day/night system after all 8)

Had a little play with it, and it seems stencyl uses a different version of box2d or something? using the examples and implementing it into stencyl, alot of the functions and methods are used differently, and the things you have to import are slightly different

Anyone that is interested, this project is still on, just have to get through these Exams and assignments, and once that's over I should have some free time to start some proper work on this.

Also what are your thoughts on having drugs being used for abilities? Taking a certain drug would give you certain abilities for a short time, or maybe a one time use that would use that ability once during battle. Also addiction would come into play, taking certain drugs too often will cause you to get addicted, then not having that drug would cause bad things to happen. etc etc.

any ideas?

Pressx, your concern about it using a different box2d is correct, i have painstakingly gone through and converted it all to box2DAS though. I have a few problems at the moment which i'm just working out... The problem is it's quite laggy, and it's not even drawing anything yet D:

Yeah i tried to do that myself, it just doesn't seem to work. This is something that would have to be built from the ground up to get it right.

I think I'll move on to my original idea of having a 'rougelike' lighting. This is something I could see myself easily be able to do.

Thanks for trying though =) hope you at least learnt something from it and didn't do it for nothing =P

Hey, I have been reading your posts, and I think this game could get real cool, real fast. I'd like to help you anyway I can.

To start, I have two tips

1). Your main character needs to be slightly more appealing.(XD) this can easily be done. How? Give him some hair.

2). I will draw it out for you, but you should change the "Rainbow" looking fence to barbed wire.

These were really quick adjustments I did........

Now that I look at the first, that fence didn't turn out so good. But do you see my point? A little? A tiny bit? A smudge?
