Sprite help - animation & improvement

As many of you already know I suck at animation. So I need you help. I need help with guy in attachment so he'll have following animations:
- walking
- breathing fire/acid/etc. (without actual fire or something else, I'll do it as separate actors)
- crouching
- jumping & falling
- climbing
Sprite improvement is also welcomed - I am not happy how it looks, but please keep it NES-styled (3 colors+ transparency and NES palette).

I don't even think that thing can be animated well, it's too complex for its size and clutters the space around it. Sorry if that doesn't sound constructive but my hat goes off to anyone who'd bother to animate that thing.

EDIT: Darkhog has improved this to some degree.

@Hectate: Yes, he is.
@Blob: Well, too bad, because you're very good at graphics, but maybe PP or someone else will make it.
