Nice progress!

Keep up the great work and I'll be awaiting the demo. :)

This is going to be AWESOME.

One suggestion though. In redwoods preview one, you have what looks like a simple background-ey thing. However, even though it is so simple, it adds a surprising amount of depth to the scene. Maybe replicate that in the other levels?

I plan on doing a similar art style for the other levels as well.

Again, simplicity is my friend. The focus is on outlines: a darker shade of the world's dominant color is used to add some depth to the scene.

The reason you don't see that in the others is simply because I have not put in more scenery yet, but it is coming. Focus earlier was more on getting game mechanics running. :)

I'm glad to see I have another person expressing interest.  :D

Hopefully this is going to be the last update before the release of the demo! Currently, I think I am going to target January 4 for the release. And let me take this time to say... PHEW.

So anyway, some progress:

  • Weapons coding is nearly finished.
  • Composed a retro tune for one of the levels. FINALLY!

Getting there. If I knuckle down, I think I can make it by the proposed date. So keep an eye out! Hopefully you will see the post in the "Announce Your Game!" section soon!

Almost there!

I like how you created the game, the art, and the music yourself. :) I hope it all works out.

OK, so I didn't get the demo out yesterday...  :(

It feels so close and yet so far at the same time. I suppose maybe it's easy to underestimate the final glitch fixing and polish that is needed as you get near the end.

I have put in some more scenery for the first two levels. I have also just about finished another tune for the game, leaving me with only one or two left to do (two if I decide to give the relatively short training stage its own tune). In general, progress has still been made!

So hang tight please. Things are probably about to get busy for me again, but I want to get this out. Honestly I would really like to see this out no later than sometime in the next two weeks.

It's understandable. Making a game yourself isn't the fastest thing in the world.

Will you be looking for a sponsor with this? If so you should limit the demo to the tutorial and maybe a second level. Depends how much content you have.

Well...

I have quite a bit planned for this game. The demo scratches only the surface of the game. Now, my intent when I first started months ago was to keep it somewhat simple. Of course, what looks simple when you start out can become complicated later, of course. But relatively speaking, I think I have done a suitable job of keeping things at the level it should be.

Ultimately, being my first "big" game, it's been a new learning experience. But hey, I found something I could run with. And fortunately I have made games in Python before... experience that can fortify my current drive. I've stuck with it these last months; I intend to keep at it. Its exciting to think about what this game can become, but it'll take work to be sure. For right now, getting that demo out and getting that first feedback should be the focus.

As for the demo content itself, it mainly is to consist of the training level and the first two levels of the first world.

OK, so...

Where did you go?
Life. But admittedly, my determination as of late has been at a low. I hope to get things rolling again soon.

Is the demo finished yet?
Sadly, no.

How long before it will be finished?
I don't know. As I stated in my first answer, my schedule has returned to normal. But as I also said, I want to get back down to business in the near future.

Why is it taking so long?
(a) I am working on this solo, and (b) as I have highlighted before this is my first attempt at a bigger project.

Anything else you want to say?
Yes: I still intend to get it done. I have come a long way and I don't intend to up front quit it all now. Just took a little break, if you will...

Where did this FAQ come from anyway?
Eh, I made it up to tackle some potential questions. The intent here though is not to put any harsh words or anything like that in people's mouths, just so you know. :)

Taking a break is fun, but don't take a long one. Mustering the urge to get back to work from a long delay is very difficult.
