3.0 Update:
"Demo- Sonic-Style Running" has been totally redone (literally made a brand new game for it) with the tile API extension. This one is much fuller than the previous demo with a larger scene and a decently fun course, with a smoother system (although it still jitters from time to time since I kept the programming as simple as possible).

Two updates in one day :)

3.0 Update:
Just like the Sonic demo, I decided to throw out the old demos for my platformer series, replacing the 3 single-part demos with two complete new platformer games, one simple and one complex. Thus, I am happy to announce the first 'level 1' tutorial I've made for the Forge: "Demo- Simple Platformer".

This is a 'level 1' demo since it is fully designed for newcomers to Stencyl. I tried to make into as nice of a springboard for new Stencylers as I could. I kept everything as simple as possible and added comments for literally everything I did (except the scene design tool... hard to comment for that one :P).

I'm glad you like it :). I like to push the limits myself ;), which is how I've gotten to where I am today. It's one of the best ways to learn.

Have you checked out "Demo- Miner". It's almost precisely what you are requesting (although you will have to change it to fit your needs).

Okay, it's finally done! Commenting on a FULL game takes ages to do, but I hope it will help a lot of people. This is my ultimate "Demo-" tutorial, showing how everything can work together in a platformer game which has achievements, a lite story, two endings, 4 worlds (2 levels per world) plus a boss battle, and a heck of a lot more ;)

"Demo- Complete Platformer" is now up in the 3.0 StencylForge!

Well, I thought I was done with 2.2 demos, but I'm adding another to the list. Making a REAL text box in Stencyl is a tricky thing as it requires real AS3 code, but I did my best to simplify it (and add a large comment for how to use it, in addition to premade comments by the original creator). It will still take understanding how the two codes work together (which is why I did it as a game, not as individual behaviors), but hopefully it can help some people out.

"Demo- Real Text Boxes" is now up in the 2.2 StencylForge!

I dunno how to do those, so I'm afraid not.

I can't get Demo- Real Text Boxes to play when I press "Test Game" in Stencyl. It generates SWF, but the game play window never pops up. Could this be an issue with the embedded font in the code? I'm running Stencyl 2.2.0 in Lubuntu 12.10, and I did change the embedded font location to a font on my local HD. Other games test just fine. By the way, how do I find out how to make it use a default font that's not embedded? I just want to know if that's an option. Thanks.

Edit: Oh, never mind! I looked over my generated logs again and figured out what the error was. It was unable to resolve the font path because the font I was trying to use was in a folder that it couldn't access. Silly me. I changed it to a local .ttf font file in a download folder on my desktop. It's working fine now.

If you want to, upload the game to StencylForge, make it public, and let me know the name, and I'll try to take a look at it for you. There are many little things that can go wrong with it.

EDIT: Glad you got it fixed! Nailing these issues can be rather nasty.

EDIT 2: Also, I do not know how to access the default Stencyl fonts. If you knew the path to the fonts (the .ttf file), you could probably use them though.

Thank you, Tuo! By the way, is there an easy way to anchor the text box to the screen? Say, for example, if I wanted to make a side-scroller platform game with a text input box always stuck right at the bottom of the screen. How would I keep it from moving with the scenery as the player actor walks? How would I want to modify the DelayTextField code to attach it to a parallax scrolling layer? Is that even possible? Well, as you can see I'm full of questions. You've made a lot of great demos.

Edit: Maybe a better strategy for me would be to attach the text box to the player actor instead, so that it would travel with the actor. I'm trying to figure out how to make that possible by modifying the code.
