Mac app store. Worth it?

Does anybody have any experience with the Mac app store. I see that it´s another $99 a year to register for Mac Dev program and even though that is not such a huge amount, I wonder if the market isn´t more business/creative focused then games/education. It is rather thin on the games-edu side, so I´m unsure. Anyone tried?

I think Mac App store is more business based, there are not that many on the store. I would more suggest the Chrome Store :)

From my experience, Mac App Store apps are made by big companies and people only buy the big games.

I really don't think it is worth it, Android phones are getting more popular, and the cost to publish to android is a one time of I believe 25 dollars, as opposed to an annual 99 dollars Apple wants. so, publishing to android when 3.0 comes out will probably be far more cost effective.

Yeah, publish to OS X's competitor, Android.

Hahahaha what.
From what I've seen, most of the apps on the mac app store are from companies. Plus, it seems like only the big name games get downloaded a lot.

I don't know how you define company, but a company can consist of a single person. Did you know that Stencyl is a company? And it's always the case that "big name" stuff gets the most downloads, because that's what makes something "big name."

Most of the games on the Mac App Store, just like the iOS App Store, are independent titles. Maybe your view stems from there being standard big budget computer games on there like Call of Duty 4? It only makes sense that Call of Duty 4 would be on the Mac App Store since the Mac App Store is on Macs, and Macs play computer games. Releasing a Mac game outside the Mac App Store isn't going to make Call of Duty 4 go away, pal.

There isn't much Competition on Mac app store, make a good game and you will have an easier time getting noticed.

Thanks for input, all. Think I´ll focus on Windows, Android and iOs for a while.
Rad, your game Tweedle Doo looks nice, but you need both an account and a sponsored game to try it, and I have only the account so far.  ;)

He's not making a big mistake, Irock. He might lose some business from the mac app store, but I think that the apple developer license allows publishing to the mac app store anyway, and porting is going to be very easy with stencyl.
