* Kongregate = 25% ads + 10%(Install API) + 15% (exclusive at Kongregate)
* newGrounds =
CPM
$1 for every 1000 people who view your ad
CPC
Cost-Per-Click. In this format, you get paid every time a unique visitor clicks the ad.
CPA
Cost-Per-Action. Includes payments per sign-up or commissions on sales. (what sign up???)
* MochiAds = ?? not had any information about it

You'll always want to submit to Kongregate, which will always have Kongregate ads.  You'll probably want to submit to Mochi distribution as well, which requires Mochi ads.  I don't know how Newgrounds ads currently compare to Mochi ads.  FGL is a site to seek sponsorships, which involves putting third party links in your game for an upfront payment (can be over $1000 for good games).

I have used mochi ads, the CPM depends on the country the view came from, and fluctuates as bidding changes. I've seen some places like Africa, oddly enough, giving a cpm around $1.60, down to China which is often around $0.10.

mochi does have the benefit of being able to make money from your game on other sites so you can benefit from going viral.

Sponsorships are the only viable way to see a decent return on your game. Ads aren't going to do much, unless you have massive scale - like what sponsors have.

Africa has a high CPM because the internet audience there is very small and likely a wealthier crowd because of that exclusivity (just my guess).

Do all of them. You'd get 35% from Kongregate unless they sponsored you.

You can get a Sponsor at FGL (where good games get more than $2000, and awesome games get more than $10000) AND put a sitelocked version on Kongregate for a 35% ads share, AND do the same with a Newgrounds Version, AND get some CPMstars ads for the viral version (your sponsor will have a share from those, so he might be interested)... You don't have to choose just one, once you make a great game, there are a lot of ways to monetize it.

I should clarify that if you're going for a sponsor on FGL then you shoudn't release the game anywhere else until either sponsored or removed from bidding.

I had no idea you could make so much off these sites. I understand you have to really make something worth it but its pretty cool to hear.

Agreed.
I cashed 180$ from sponsorships and 0,5$ from ads the last year.With one game.
Also contests can squeeze good money.
If you are wondering which site will give you most choose all.If you get a five star game on Kongregate probably you'll get more money from free will donations than ads.

Another good source of income are sitelocks. Sometimes you get more money from these than from the primary license.

Just to clarify, donations on kongregate have recently been removed. They were called "tips" and used "kreds." You can still have in-game currency that can be purchased for kreds, but stencyl doesn't have very much support for that right now.

This is a very useful thread. I definitely need to learn more about this. What are the standards for games that get sponsored? I'd like to get a game sponsored by the end of the year, but what are some do's and don'ts for getting a game sponsored?

Standard really depends on what a sponsor is looking for I think. Then again the sponsor bids/amount will vary too. Each sponsor has differing views of what a good game is to them - just depends on the game. Best thing you can do is work on your game, get feedback/input on here and on fgl once you put your game on there and open it to other devs feedback. Make sure its as polished as you can make it before submitting for approval and sponsor viewing. Then sit back and start another game as things can take time. I have 2 games being bid on currently - 1 took nearly 2 months to get its first bid, the 2nd got bid on about 15 minutes after being approved!

Dont release it anywhere as sponsors wont touch it if its out there already.
Dont expect it to be a quick process - it can take weeks or months to get sponsored.

Do polish the game as much as you can and get as much feedback as possible before submitting for approval and review.
Do make the first minute or 2 as good an impression as you can as some sponsors will only look briefly.

Theres many more things you could or couldnt do to help, but look around here, and also the forums on fgl have some good faq's and stuff too. Im still fairly new to all this myself so still learning, but the above things are some good points though. Good luck with the game :)

I agree with all what spoogob said (Polish a lot, get feedback, etc.) except for one thing: Once the game is up for bidding you cannot sit back and wait for the bids. You need to promote it, contact sponsors, maybe  make a game trailer, whatever you can to make them bid. Once they place a bid, you have to push them to get a better offer. If a month passes and you don't get decent bids, you are doing something wrong.

If you want advice to sell your game, go to FGL forums, there are a lot of threads there that will help you to find a sponsor. I'm market level 7 there, and I still look for advice from more experienced developers. Most of them are willing to share their wisdom.

Oh i agree :) I kinda meant instead of just waiting for something to happen with a finished game, start on a new one once you'v done as much as you can for the finished game.

Just to add to that - my first 2 games I put on fgl, that did nothing - i didnt do as much as I could have. I didnt make a video/trailer, I didnt promote it as such in different ways. With my 2 newer games, I did the opposite - both have trailers, images embedded in the game description, before the game was done they were opened to anyone to check out for me - things i didnt throw myself into at the beginning - and now both games have bids and many views (ok, latest is only 2 days on there but is gathering momentum).

The only thing Ive never had luck with is contacting sponsors myself. Ive written many emails and had zero responses, but its at least pushing it as much as you can. Also with the 2 games i now have bids on, its kinda new to me, so Im also still learning what I can and cant do/say/etc with a sponsor. One thing im personally unsure of is asking/pushing a sponsor to offer more - is that something you'v done before?
