The game style is a platforming space shooter where the player is in control of a mech and is fending off waves of aliens on multiple parts of the planet.

Two currencies
Over 20 enemies
Each enemy with their own way of fighting
Achievements with bonuses gained on completion of each achievement
A large skill tree consisting of over 20 things to unlock
Multiple difficulty levels that unlock more of the game as you play harder difficulties
Each incremental difficulty increases kill rewards.
A world map with selectable stages that unlock as you progress through the regions
Multiple weapons that unlock through the skill tree
Secrets on every stage
An attractive GUI and a game with a gloomy setting
Every stage introduces new enemies.

Hmm, I feel like I am fighting myself more than the enemies. The bullets don't fire very rapidly and they don't do very much damage (at least before you start upgrading). It feels very lethargic early on and, though that may be intended, it is too much so in my opinion. Secondly, I am not even sure how I use the gold or what its for.

On the other hand though, you definitely put a lot into its presentation. THAT shows most certainly! I just think that some of the gameplay, at least early on, needs some polish. Right now I feel the player is too weak for its own good early.

I don't think Jon will accept this one as you had it mostly done before the contest was even announced.

@rob1221: The public release of his game was after the announcement... shouldn't it be fine with the terms then?

@xandramas: Nice one :) Although the difficulty curve is a bit too high at the beginning in my opinion. The game gets easier as you make progress.

Well, the game appeared to be mostly done before the contest was announced as Rob says. From a post Jon made ... "If hassled, I'd say that a game whose content is beyond "half done" is stretching it..", and from checking out versions of this game prior to the contest, Id be inclined to agree.

Regardless of that, its a nice effort in areas, but Id maybe agree with what Photon says. Good luck with it either way though!

Hey, I just released my first flash game made with Stencyl. Check it out here at [removed by Meestar] If you enjoy it than please rate it and submit your high score.

It's extremely rude to advertise your game in topics unrelated to your game, especially if the topic is someone's contest entry, and especially when you are participating in the same contest!!!!  It's downright disrespectful to xandramas.

Anyways, pretty cool game, xan!

I'll be fine with being told I cant submit it because i'll probably lose anyway. But the rules did state that as long as the game wasnt released then its okay. Thanks for the positive feedback btw, its almost the first ive recieved from someone I dont know. All I can say is I learned a couple of things making my first game (this one) mostly on the programming end and as well on the art side that I wont be doing in my next game, which I am making now and has no chance of being finished by the contest deadline.

By the way you spend your gold at the cockpit screen that you see every time you die, or when you go to cockpit via the esc key menu. That screen is full of interactive stuff. The buttons, when the mouse is over them will tell u what you're purchasing and how much they cost. If you mouse over the weapons on the left you'll get a description of your currently unlocked weapons.

The rules simply defined one of the criteria for what was considered a "new" game. It did not say that was the only criteria.

New = a game not released or published (which my game meets those stipulations)

The time you're spending hating on my submission you could be tweaking yours to make it better. You're acting like im cheating or something. You've got a LOOOONG time to smash my game out of the water and a 5 minute game could easily beat my entry if its entertaining enough.

I could have easily waited 2 months then uploaded it to kongregate and then said, my submission is done!!! But it wasnt stipulated anywhere in the rules about projects needing to be released just before the deadline.

On a final note, comments made in the description of the post are different than the actual contest rules. There is no definition other than a non released game in the contest rules anywhere. If they wanted a game created from scratch starting at the beginning of the contest it should have stated in the rules just that and I wouldnt have submitted it.

If hassled, I'd say that a game whose content is beyond "half done" is stretching it. So it's OK if you have a demo with just the base mechanics finished, but not OK if you submit a 60 level game where you've already completed 30 levels.

@xandramas: I clarified what was said in the contest rules. I hardly consider what I said to be "hating".

I dont think anyone is hating on your game xandramas, just pointing out the rules and such. Even with it being new and unpublished, I think the issue will be more so that it was mostly complete before the competition started. But good luck with it either way though :)

Rob, understandable. I saw that thread. But that wasnt stated on the official contest entry form.

Its pretty lame to change the rules after the contest has started if this is the case.
