Potato The Destroyer is a minimalistic side-scrolling action platformer where you play as a potato on a mission to make his minimalistic world even more minimalistic by defeating The Crystal Potato of Destiny.

This was made in 2 days completely from scratch for Ludum Dare 26 and I can't believe I actually did this in such a short amount of time.

Post-Ludum-Dare Version:
Play on Newgrounds
Play on my website (if Newgrounds has reported responsiveness issues)

Pretty tough stuff. Could you set up a logo for this? I've put it in as a Staff Pick on the arcade.

Done. I was in a rush to get it up in time. Thanks for the feature.

Hopefully it's not too tough. The one person I watched play the game did alright. Though there were a few potentially frustrating things I wanted to change but didn't have time to.

Ahaha! Great!

For only three enemy types, one boss, and moving platforms, you sure made it work!

I might be inclined to ask why its a cystral potato, but I'm not going to. :P
Do NOT PM me your questions, because I likely will not respond. If I have replied to your question on the forum, keep using that topic. Thanks!

Very fun considering how few enemy types there are and how simple it is. It just feels good to play. :) Don't know how to describe it too well, but it just feels responsive and tactile and nice in the way I feel games should, both because of the controls and the little aesthetic effects and things.

Thanks everyone. :)

I uploaded a commentated timelapse of the game's development to Youtube. Justin and Blob joined me on commentary because we go together like tomato, basil and mozzarella.

Watch it on Youtube

Thx for the Time-lapse ^^ Pausing the video and copy it  block for block, pixel for pixel! ;P Joking, first game time-laps I have watched. Love the game :) Very interesting in a bigger game ^^

Thanks a bunch.

Contestants in Ludum Dare are required to upload the game's source, so you could just download that if you wanted to copy it.

I've updated the game to address some of the feedback I've gotten and to improve a few things in general. This update is just in time for the Stencyl Jam but keep in mind that if you're going to rate this game for the Ludum Dare competition, you should play the original submission, which is the Stencyl Arcade version. The post-comp version can be found on Newgrounds.

Changes:
-Easier difficulty mode
-Simple story intro
-SPACE for shooting and UP for jumping
-Minor level design enhancements
-Informative and non-informative signposts
-Key displays in the HUD when you posses one
-Key has its own sound effect
-Removed an unused song from the file

Something's off about the newgrounds version - pretty frequently, my jumps won't execute at random. The one hosted here is still fine.

In all other respects, the post-comp version is quite a nice improvement.

That's weird. Does it have the issue when played from my website? http://corymartin.net/games-and-junk/potato-the-destroyer/

I'd update the Stencyl Arcade version but that's the one I link to from the Ludum Dare page.

I'll judge off whatever you wish me to judge - it need not necessarily be here.

The one hosted on your site is fine.
