Or is it hosted by Jon? I mean, how else are you going to get profit from Stencyl?

It's funded out of my pocket right now. We will fund our business by selling subscription fees for services like iOS/HTML5 exporting, priority support and a paid area of StencylForge (dubbed the Stencyl Market / Store) where we'll do a revenue share with the resource authors.

Wait, HTML5 export will be paid? I understand iOS/Android being paid, but HTML5? HTML5 Canvas was meant to replace Flash AFAIK, so basically you support old technology (okay, HTML5 is still in draft, but when it'll be done Flash will slowly fade out) for free, but technology which is meant to replace it is paid. Am I right?

Yes, it will start out as a paid service.

There are zero credible game creation packages today that output to it, and the lack of sound support will keep it in an experimental phase. It's still years before it's a viable technology, and the interesting angle isn't that it will replace Flash but that it will enable mobile games to exist outside an App Store. That is where 90% of the value is.

I would pay for it, there isn't any other tools that artists with no coding skills can make games with.

I believe in the old saying "You get what you pay for". Besides, there are a lot of programs that go from the free alpha/beta stage to payment service down the road.

I wonder if they'll let us use Impact for Stencyl.

Impact is terrific and Flixel-like, but I have my eyes on libraries that tie closer to Box2D.

I don't know if there even exist b2d for HTML5. If so, there is matter of time before engine utilizing it would be created, if b2d for html5 don't exist, then if it comes you'll just modify Impact to work with it as you did to Flixel.

You should put up a paypal donate button, so that us stecylers can suport stency. Also, one thing is you can put up a few google adsense ads on the website and we could all click on them a couple times a day which would get you a little bit of revenue. Just some suggestions!

@UP: I agree. But instead of Google Ads I propose to use Project wonderful where you set price for add can moderate them and system automatically adding PW provision to final ad cost so you'll get as much as you entered when prepared ad space. Also you can moderate ads so it's almost impossible to see redtube or something like this link on site (I on older project with google ads encountered this and my site wasn't related to p0rn in any way)

And here's the good part: Google Ads don't draw their content from the site, they draw it from searches you've done. ;3

Google ads don't even make minimum wage. I can't think of a major startup that relies on them except as last-ditch inventory before going to public service announcements. It's nice for a hobby site when your expectation is to make at most $100 a month, but that's all it's good for. Even for sites that do run ads, like Kongregate, their inventory is custom negotiated directly with advertisers, and it still represents a minority fraction of the revenue.

We already have solid plans to generate some real revenue that we'll roll out after launch, and hopefully, traction to support them.

You need a way to draw people in now, like Google Ads(yes, I agree with it) and possibly promoted Youtube videos, they usually get well over 200k views a pop.
