Just a couple of crits of that screenshot.

1, To me it seems that the cat belongs in fornt of one of those tiles, to me it looks like the cat is in the background.
2. Massive quality change. The ground is really nice, the graidnted background doesn't fit at all. The cat is quite low quality pixel art and the stars are... You need everything to have the same graphic style.

1. That is built up snow.... shall I place less?

2. Lower the ground quality, or increase the player quality? The background is placeholder, I have new higher quality star graphic

1. At the moment the snow looks like a 3/4 view ground, To me it seems like it shouldn't be just one colour if you want it to read as built up snow.

2. It's not the quality, just the style. The player is made up to have a very 'olod school' look whereas the ground looks as if it has been digitally painted quite well actually.

Some stuff about the cat
I dont know if im being petty now but the scarf the little cat wears should be red, i think it would work better, compare it and see. Since i believe there are certain combinations that work brilliant together, while some do not
Or even themed scarfs for different worlds, like snow and forest and stuff, which could be good if you put effort in to it :)
Ears should be bigger, looks so damn tiny

The shading is great, but try different shading "styles", im sure trying it different ways will improve your skills.
By the way you put in a lot of sparkle and time in to your work, i love the "way" you make animations/sprite "stuff-iluff" its great.
Keep up the good work!

Thanks, the cat has an orange scarf cause it's my favorite colour, making themed scarfs would take alot of memory and time.

I'm working on a new little game, so expect delays.

Sorry about the huge delay, I was working on a new game to motivate me :)

Here is two pictures of a new level.

It's very unfinished, lacking a background, shading effects, doors, and a lot of other details so far.

And a little tileset!

Surprisingly, this was done in around an hour.

your avreging 20fps and I the game kind of crashed when trying to move the box by entering the new scene which was stuck and took like 10 min. in order to push it out of the little cave area

The water eats up the frame rate, a lot.

And the box was poorly placed, I'll fixed that. In fact, I haven't updated the web test in a while.

Just a little picture.

I think the house (and things like boxes) would look better if you gave it more perspective-so it's not just straight on like a cardboard cut-out.  the palette alone is great, but it needs that perspective to fill up the sky (which doesn't match the scenery anyway).

Also, the graphics make me expect a semi-realistic character, with similar shading.  The cat you have now is cartoony and I dislike how it "walks".  I'd expect a side profile for walking.

On a side note, it would make a lot of sense if instead of a magical sign, something like a trampoline allowed the cat to jump higher in certain areas.

With more work, I think this game could develop into something with a really touching story (because the graphics appear deep due to the shadows and contrast).

:o I forgot about this project! It's pretty disappointing to just see it rot. So I'll do what's need to be done, finish it!

Off-Topic: Here's a picture I took a while ago...

QUACK!

Working with objects via concept art.

I drew this while I was bored.

I then drew it out in tiles and placed it in game.

Not bad...

You seem to be missing the top line for the grass below the third pillar...but otherwise I really enjoy the texture and shading on the scenery.  You should consider redoing the cat (and alike sprites) to match the style of the background, since you seem to be better with the non-pixel style you use there, so I think that you should redraw the entire cat, because you are really using a SITTING animation-like pose.  I would suggest watching how cats walk, and trying something like that.

Also, although there are styles that use heavy black outlines (like yours), you should look into lightening the outline where you outline the shading (I know that 2D Pokémon sprites do this).  It adds a bit of... realism, and makes shapes look even more shapely.
