Chit-Chat: Different Contests?

Maybe the subject was a little unclear, but wouldnt a competition/contest be nice? I mean, sometimes the forums seem a bit dead.

I was thinking of something like a monthly/weekly competition where the would be a challenge like: De-Make a short playstation game or make a sprite inspired by anger. And if you win your submission(s) gets featured or something, with a basic set of rules and an admin/Jon to arrange it, (i could help to arrange) it would be fun to chit-chat a little bit on a mega-thread just for fun. Darnit, i wish i joined stencyl earlier ;)

So what do you think? Leave your thougths below.

I think this would be cool. Also an all Stencyl ludem dare might be fun.

When I saw the OP, I thought Ludum Dare myself, particularly because Jon is pretty busy to be adding more onto his plate. Instead, different Stencyl vets could be selected to make small contests.

Its an idea, anyway.

I've been on other sites that did something like this (anim8or.com for one).  It starts off strong but after a while it started to die down. But that being said I'm all for this. Just think it should be more like every 3 months.

I think a format like the following might work:

  • At the beginning of each month, pose a challenge to the community. Something simple enough to have flexibility in its implementation, but distinct enough to merit some "outside of the box" thinking.
  • Though the challenge is for one month, the point is to do something simple. It whets one's game design blade, if you will. If you are spending more than a few days actually programming the game, that's probably too long.
  • On that note, after fulfilling the challenge the beauty of it all would be that if you really came up with something good, you could run with it and develop it into a full game.

In short, it helps get/keep the motor running. A "for fun" thing yet something that reinforces good work flow and game design. Maybe I'll think about coming up with something.[/list]
