Due to the high volume of invite requests and the fact that we'll likely launch iStencyl by the end of the month, we've stopped letting new people in.

Stay tuned for more news on this. Thanks!

Not a problem! Thanks for the update. Just wondering what the keyboard controls will be like in iStencyl? Will we be able to control the positioning of our buttons and joystick layout. If for example our game only requires Left, Right, Fire and Jump whether we could simply add those buttons as images that the user then taps?

Also do we get the ability to open our game in Xcode and modify all the generated Box2D code/Objective-C code outside of iStencyl?

On screen button support is provided  (they're actors), as is joystick support.

You can muck around in Xcode all you want, though the amount of control you have is exactly the same as our Flash engine - you can edit the generated behaviors and add in some new code, but you can't edit the engine itself since that's pre-compiled / our secret sauce.

This is great news. With the generated code does it not include Box2D libraries and source as part of the project? Just trying to figure out how the physics engine behaves.

What would happen if a newer version of Box2D was released would we be required to update the StencylWorks engine and then republish our apps?

I come from a strong Objective-C background and have built several mobile games with Box2D and Chipmunk so I'm quite interested in how iStencyl will compile all these together as an Xcode project.

Woo hoo! Party!  :D

...and it exports to Xcode?! That's nice.

I'm also waiting to see how light-weight the 1.2 actors really are. :)

Box2D is pre-compiled with the rest of the engine into a static library. We update Box2D on our own schedule because we've made customizations to it to make it work better with our work.

I have some questions about iStencyl, I have a game almost finished now (missing just improve the look) and I intend to release it for ios. I have a Mac, an iPod and an iPhone for testing and I'm about to get an iPad. Did not sign up for the beta because I have no game released, had never used Stencyl and despite having had an account as the developer for iphone os (yes three years ago, not ios) now the account is down. Of course I want to renew my subscription to Apple as soon as istencyl is released and I can use it commercially.

While I do not have the beta version of istency l'm doing my game plan on porting it to istencyl later.

And here are the questions:
If we choose the mobile project Stencyl says we need to upload an image twice the size for retinal display. What about the devices without the retina? or istencyl is only for newer devices?

By uploading a background image it will not ask for twice-sized images, that's right?

To test the game on my ipod / iphone must have some specific OS? I still have leopard on my mac, I need to have the snow or lion?

And last on the approval of the app. Apple has approved apps made this way? For there was a time when coming from the flash apps were being barred.

hmmm... istencyl will come out later this week? :-) tks for any replies, will help me prepare for the game to be ported soon (maybe this weekend... hehehe)  :D

I doubt it will be out by Halloween. I'm pretty sure that any mac operating system later than 10.4 or 10.5 will do. I don't follow their version #'s, what number is leapard?  Apple bars flash apps, but Adobe Air (I think so, at least) turns the Actionscript 3 Code from CS5 into something suitable for iOS.

3 istencyl apps have already been approved for the store. We'll blog about them soon. The code is all native, no flash involved. We're very close to a launch.

Does Apple discriminate by what it was made by, and do they even care? Well, I bet they do care, but um, do they discriminate, and can they even find out what it was made in? I'm sure they wouldn't like non-mac users using it.

I'm pretty sure Apple wants any and all usage of its services. That's how consumerism works.

We'll announce a date when we're ready.

maybe its closer then we think!

I'm working in two little games using StencylWorks. It will be easy to convert this games to iStencyl or will be more easy re-start the projects from zero?
