Those games are practically the same that we're launched on PC / consoles.

Now why would I buy a mobile game if it's exactly the same as the PC version I (probably) already own?

I did!
I don't have much free time to play games on my PC.
But on my mobile I may play a stage when I am at bathroom or whatever.  ;)

The examples that I did give was to report some games that was not so casual as we do expect for mobile games.
Exactly the niche I want to compete/join with my game.

By the way... You did change your avatar. Right?

I found a nice article with charts that show us the rank of top selling and engagement per type of game on mobile market:

Nice article, but the overall numbers are take only from games, who offer IAP's.
I thought the average daily engagement would be higher.
Sure, my games won't get better with all the new features of Stencyl.
But I do have more fun creating bad ones.

I was kind of surprised by those numbers.
I also did think the daily engagement would be higher.

Back to Development:

I did change my ingame dialog box to make it look similar to comics book.
Its now using a white background and Comics Sans font.

On the image above you may realize that I did change not only my character movements, but also his dialog face.
I made some cell shading on it.
Also you will see that the guard has been changed / enhanced. I did finish his movements using Spine software.
Now I do need to take some time and do the same upgrade for Spy 2. I will include some cell shading on the ingame character as well.

Also I did incluse some cartoon dialog ballons inside my game.
After all, I am using "comics" into my brand name. Right?
Got the inspiration from Comix Zone game. Which is a great game by the way.

...especially having in mind that they looked at apps with IAP, who tend to be played with more engagement then without.

I guess I might give Spine a try.

I will always state that it is a great tool.
It did not enhance my character's drawing, obviously, as it's a tool to help you with animation.
But as I did have to chop my character into various parts, I took advantage of that chopping and enhance each part or him using photoshop.

Then it became really better at the end.
I will upload a new version soon. Just finishing a few bugs that were reported while on stencyl jam and trying to make it more user friendly.

Then I will create a new scene or it.
The comics drawing for the story I already did. Need to digitalize it...
I will also try to finish them soon to also be updated. :)

Hey!!!

I am still working my butt out to finish my intro.
Doing the best I can to try to make it look less amateur as possible.

When I get a more complete game to show I will hire an artist to do some final touches.
But for now I will continue working solo.

Here come some new images. Not new... Enhanced ones.

I will include some subtle textures on the drawing soon. I did receive a cool tip on twitter regarding it.

Cheers

Just a small idea for another style:

Might save you some time and might fit better to the background (although has less character).

I do agree that those characters may fit better with my background.
That way everything will be as Vector.

But I am creating a cartoon plot / story.
Maybe I do need to make the background a little more cartoonish. =)

But anyway... I agree with you. Those shadowed characters would fit way better with the game / background.
Thanks a lot for the idea. I will consider and think about it a lot.

I am still doing some small enhancements in my demo.
I really do need to finish all bugs and drawings before moving to next step, which is a creation of a new stage, with obviously new enemies.

But I can show at least a new enhancement made with my countdown timer:

In my opinion that went so well that I am willing to include a shadow on the buttons too. Those yellow / orange buttons.

I just found out a strange thing on Stencyl.

boolean = false
is not the same as
NOT boolean.

Dont know why, but the NOT condition has a delay on it.
I did use it on my "drawing" event.
I had the following code:

If NOT boolean
   boolean = true
   more code...

But, the "more code..." block did repeat itself around 2 or 3 times.
As soon I did change to:
If boolean = false
    boolean = true

The code went fine. No more repetition as it should be.

Strange...

Also:
Yesterday I got my tablet.
I am still installing the apps and tweaking it a little.

But its a great tool for development:

Its a Dell Venue 8 Pro.
I can use a blutooth keyboard as shown on the picture or the virtual keyboard.

Its great for developing small things. Fix some bugs in bed or even to help you develop when you are away from home.
But I do assume its not the most efficient or confortable way of developing.

Did you compare what the difference becomes in code-mode?
