Inspiration from Obama, create it!

It's great to see so much talk about this!

I thinks it's funney! I bet Obama has never coded or developed anything in his life, and yet he's telling everybody to code. :P  I would like to see Obama code :P ... Lol. He would probably hire sombody to make a game for him then claim he made it :P .

... I wonder it Obama can code? ???

This is completely irrelevant and invalid.

1. He's the president of the United States, his job does not include programming!
2. Give him a break, he's spending important time encouraging something very important to our society.
3. How do you know he hasn't coded? You're making an unfair assumption; give him the benefit of the doubt.
4. You say the president of the United States of America would claim someone else's work as his own. I don't even now how to respond to you.

Earlier suggestions were to
1) use max only one ! or ? at the end of sentences- failed
2) use less ellipses- failed
3) not to use an absurd amount of smileys- failed

It's not even really relevant, who cares if Obama can code? He doesn't need to know how. He's suggesting people learn, and that's good.

Just to make it clear... I was a joke... But now i have to defend myself...

1. I know his job doesn't include programming. But he said its important that everybody learns some code. The president includes everybody. This really doesn't matter. I don't care if he can code or not. It doesn't matter. No need to make a big deal out of this part.

2. I actually appreciate he's encouraging this. I think it would be better if everybody at least had a minimal knowledge of code.

3. It's obvious that he hasn't done a tremendous amount of coding. When I listened to that vedio, it was obvious he wasn't a pro-programmer... But this is just based off a guess. I can think whatever I want. This really doesn't matter. Unless he announces if he's ever coded, all of us will be making a assumption.

4. Actually, he has... (i cant remeber the story too well, but heres what i remeber) Fox reports that Obama wasn't supporting killing Osama Bin Laden... And It was some dude ( I forgot who) but it was some high level navy general that pushed so hard for it. That general had to push real hard to get it done! Eventually, the general got the military to approve the raid. After the raid, Obama took credit for pushing the raid to happen, while it reality, he was hindering it... So Obama became a hero from taking credit for what the general did.

And Irock... You sounded gay saying you loved Obama :P . Joking.

Look... I don't want to start a political war on Stencyl... So if one breaks out, done blame me, I'm trying to drop it right now. I see most of you have a differant political veiw than me, and I respect that, so let's not hate each other for what our personal beliefs are.

I just read your post.

I never use more that 1 ? Or ! At a time?
What do you mean use less ellipses? I only used 1? They were 2 differant subjects anyway.
Not use absurd amount of smileys. Yes. I did fail! :P

And I'm not saying him encouraging coding is a bad thing? I thinks it's a good thing. I'm just curious if he can code.

It's tragic that this topic's getting derailed because it's actually really relevant to Stencyl's future. The Obama part is just a celebrity endorsement (much like how they got Bill Gates and everyday celebrities to pitch in), but the big deal is that there was a nationwide movement today to get people to introduce programming in some shape or form to students in the classroom, something that was dubbed the "Hour of Code".

If you've been to a site called Code.org (which we really belong to but aren't on yet - that will change next year), that's where this has all come from.

This is really relevant to us because a good chunk of our audience comes straight from schools who want to teach programming concepts in approachable ways and what better way than to build a game? Using gamedev tools in classrooms is nothing new, but Stencyl has particularly been popular because we adopted the Scratch approach, and the immense popularity of Scratch and ensuing familiarity with that paradigm has decisively worked in our favor. That's why I care about this a lot because we have a huge vested interest in this area.

Indeed, it's awesome to hear so much excitement about programming. I think it's also important children get familiar with programming concepts when young.

There's a good chunk of Scratch users who I feel could make great Stencyl games but either don't know about it or hear bad things about it. I wish Stencyl were more well-known in the Scratch community. But at the same time, the Scratch community is at a very different age group then the Stencyl one so that could be an issue.

Obama is not a very good president. He's also a liar! Has no respect for our troops! Is ruining our economy! And limiting our freedom. And Obama was using this to get support. I'll go explain why I think what I just said...
This could be said of most presidents, but regardless this thread isn't about Obama, it's about what he said in the video, which was a very important and (generally) good thing to say.

On a selfish personal level I shudder to think of the indie-dev/coder crowd becoming even more cluttered than it already is, but in the scheme of things this is a really big and cool moment in time.

Indeed. But in the long run it's very worth the small hassle it is now.

That has nothing to do with this topic, and you probably didn't even read Jon's post.

Why did you quote me saying somthing I'd didn't say?

And no... I didn't see Jon's post untill after I posted mine. I started my post before he had finished and I didn't see it. I took down the post.

Okay... I'll completly drop the subject. I think it's a good thing that he addressed this. And I hope this helps Stencyl get more downloads a popularity. I have nothing against Obama saying this. It's a good thing, and I'm glad he did it.
