Elements (water)

Sadly, this is not the full game. You can only play the water courses. It is just a release to see what I need to change before I go on. The jist of the game is that the elements of fire, water, rock, and wind were lost in an explosion. And you must play each individual element to get it back. Then at the end you must reclaim the energy element(which is what caused the explosion). Once you have restored them all then you can live in peace again. This is my first "game" so please check it out. Thanks   http://www.stencyl.com/v10/game/play/2056

Very similar to Balls in Space, but at least it includes intro. Sadly it's too slow. Also please change space to something else (like z), because Stencyl site have issue causing scrolling down as after using pgdown button when pressing space during play. You can tell what results it may have.

I did borrow the exploding packages from balls of space. Hopefully that is ok. I will change the space bar thing right away. And when you say slow, do you mean the character moves slowly(aka. a little glichy) or do you mean the game needs to be sped up in the code(aka. when right arrow key pressed move (faster)). Thanks so much for the review

Yeah, I was going to say the intro does seem rather long and almost lost my interest in the game. Though, I think with some polishing this game could be quite fun. It does seem eerily close to Balls in Space, even though some of the behaviors are from that game.

yes, I know it may seem close to balls in space. I do admit to using the idea of the pick up boxes (that explode) from balls in space. But I have not used any code from balls in space. All the code in my game was either from stencyl forge, or I wrote it. I dont even know how to download his game. I looked for it so I could download it and check out the code, but it was not on the game section. All the graphics are drawn by me except for the little element symbols, that I got from a game in Scratch (MIT). But is it ok for me to have a circular actor? I mean I can change how he looks. Sorry, its just i have worked on this game for months trying to make this game. And when I publish it people say I am copying from another game. How would you feel? If there is anyway that I can prove it is my creation I will do it.

Haha! It is perfectly fine, I know that the code is yours, I just misunderstood what you had meant by the use of the pick up boxes.

And more so what I was commenting on was the fact that many parts of the game were very similar to that of Balls in Space, For example the doors of the level selection, the pickup boxes( I assume that is the ammunition to shoot?), level design just seemed similar (hidden platforms, overall design, etc.)

I know all the elements listed are found in a lot of games, It's just when I saw the other comment about it, and then I played it, I understood why the comment was made in the first place.

You have your own story line, and with some polishing it seems like it could be a really fun game, so I don't mean for you to take any offense, and I don't mean for my comment to be misinterpreted into meaning that you are copying anything. So I apologize that it was the reaction received by it.

Anyway, as for ways to improve on the game, I feel like some of the graphics seemed kinda mismatched, or needed a little more polishing to them to bring more life into the game. Although hard, I think the final level was my favorite one, The best part about it was the boss.

I also hope that you could see this criticism as a positive thing, because as popular as Balls in Space was, anyone who is familiar with the game especially out in the Kong world, will make similar comments.

Maybe one more suggestion would be to add something unique to the game, i.e. develop the Element aspect out a bit more. From what I played, it seemed like all I was going to do was go from the start of the level to the end of the level several times and then kill a boss.

I see the story developing out a little bit as to the recovery of the elements and putting things back together, but do the elements give you any special powers? Are there any unique characteristics about the player? Any unique skills or changes to make the game stand out more?

Anyway, I hope to see more from you and I look forward to when you've finished this game. Good luck!

Thanks. I did put this out for criticism, And I am open to suggestions. I do realize that when you make your your own work, your ideas are not always the best. Thanks for the tip about adding something special. I am planning that his powers change do to the element he is in. Eg. fire balls in the fire element. But yes, I should add a screen that shows what new power I get once you defeat the boss, and regain the water element. I will try to work on making something unique. Maybe his looks will change and and he will gain new talents when he gets back each element. Something like that. Thanks for the compliment on the boss stage. I hope it was not to easy. (trust me, I had almost unbeatable.) again thanks for the help!

I know level 3 looked very similar to a course in "Balls in Space". And when I looked at it myself I thought I should probably change that. So Please forgive me for that. And see if you can find the secret entrance now. :)

So maybe something with a more life like feel. I was going for the "secret underground laboratory scene" But now that you mention it, i think the scene would look better with a more life like feel. Thanks for the comment.
