It's pretty easy to get text from files. Here's a simple guide.

I could get back to Space Pirate after a long fever and sickness. Puh!
I have a rough version of the communication feature working:

No mouse needed and it's working with an extern txt file!
I will keep you updated now that i am back on track.
Happy hunting!

Hi guys,

i just wanted to mention that i worked a lot on the game again this week after being at GDC in San Francisco and dealing with a lot of other games.  I also had a difficult time motivating me; basically due to a lot of stress in other projects.
Most of you know what i am talking about but i want to finish the game.

I am currently fighting my way through the communication and goal system.
The next game will have a smaller scope ;)

Update soon!

Give me a week for a new PC build ;)
Regarding Mac. I don't have one to compile but i will ask a friend.
I have no clue how much i will need to test on Mac or if it will run smooth.

Will let you know soon!

This has been my mantra for the past few weeks. Along with: "Why ..... why am I making something this far out of my skill level"   :'(
I am an Ambient/Textural/Cinematic composer. Sometimes, for giggles, I write 8 bit music.

Don't give up!
Many said it before and it's true. Working on a game beside the ususal daily routine is tough.
But maybe...just maybe you want to finish it.
Buy yourself a nice bottle of whiskey or soda and drink it when its done.

Don't be afraid to kill projects if they are not going anywhere...but i am not at this point yet ;)

So glad to hear that Bombini, because this game looks so awesome!

I'm picking out the whiskey already.  :)

I keep thinking my game idea is out of my skill level also.  It's comforting to know others are going through similar feelings.  You are so much further along than us(at least me, not sure about Kyle) Bombini, don't throw in the towel!

Thanks a lot for the kind words!
I actually worked a lot on Space Pirate last week and got major features done.
I need some more polishing before i compile a new build.
This is the first time that i think i have all features i wanted and will be able to focus on adding more content soon.

I have one question regarind gamepads.
I obviously reat the guide.
How do i get all the buttons names without owning all gamepads? Or ami getting it wrong?

Cheerio!

hey guys,
I am definetly back on track having worked a lot on the game the last 2 weeks making very good progress.
I still want to polish more before i release the gameplay demo 3 (i guess end of next week).
90% of the crucial features are in. This demo will be a showcase to demonstarte the current status.
I will focus on story, level design and adding content afterwards.

Happy Easter everyone!

Very good to hear.  I'd be happy to help test any Mac builds that you might have in the future.

Hey, I've been watching this since the beginning.  Very cool game that you have here.  Matches the very first game that I worked on long ago and all of the awesome things that we had planned for it.  I just wanted to say that even though it might require a bit of extra work, you should aim to achieve your original plans for the game and not cut it shorter than what you dreamed it should be.  Finish it with all the content you dreamed of, or you might regret it!  You have no deadlines set by a company, so take your time and finish your amazing vision.  You also want to be careful that you don't work on this game too much or else you might find yourself burnt out and not wanting to finish it.

We all struggle with things that we have never done before, especially systems within a game.  When I first started, I couldn't imagine how to create a drag and drop inventory  system.  After keeping at it and working on my learning, I one day found myself thinking about it and the answer came to me almost immediately.  So you just have to keep at it and you'll get better!

Good luck and good work!
PM me if you require help.  I'm always glad to help out!
