Well, the answer is "it depends", based on the laws in your country. You can do a small company, that's initially you only. You can name your company whatever you want, but is has the be in one line with your name.

For Apple itself, while registering you need only the address and that's it. Later then, when you're uploading apps and place them in the store for sale, you have to enter some tax number (this is different for the country where you register your account) and declare to apple that you're responsible for what you're doing.
Sure, my games won't get better with all the new features of Stencyl.
But I do have more fun creating bad ones.

You should consult some with more knowledge on this. For Germany, Spain, UK and Gibraltar, you have to apply for some kind of coorporate tax id, that comes with the registration for your business. It's not automatically assigned to you as it might happen that you won't get enough income the first years, so the financial administration reduces the overhead here.

You can get an EIN, instantly, from the IRS website. You can also use your social security number _and_ use a different name by going to your county Clerk of Courts and filing a DBA name.

Edit: I a surprised at the age skew in this thread. I pictured Stencyl appealing to a much younger group. I am in my late-30s, which I would have thought was pretty old for Stencyl.

I think that Stencyl (and other tools) attract the younger, as you can achieve great things without or little knowledge.
For me it's a great tool to re-create some of my older games I've done when I was younger without the hassle of learning another couple of frameworks.
