Stencyl says that for iphone you design your game at 480 x 320 but says to draw and import at 1920 x 1280. So which is it? In my game that I'm working on am I supposed to work at 1920 x 1280 or 480 x 320. I don't like working at 1920 x 1280 because it's too big and isn't smooth on my laptop. So do I draw everything at 480 x 320 and hit the scale x 4 button? If I draw at 480 x 320 will stencyl multiply it by 4 for other devices? What size are my scenes supposed to be? Sorry I'm confused with scaling. I read the app scaling in stencylpedia but im horrible with numbers and don't quite get which size to start when making a game..

Set your game to 480 x 320, then create all you assets at 1920 x 1280. Then you import them and set them to x4.

how does that work though? so if i set the scene size to 480 x 320 and my assets at 1920 x 1280 how would they fit on my scene?

Yes, when you import you frames, set scale to x4.

If i shrink them for 320 x 480 won't it be crap resolution when i put on an iphone 5 or ipad air? am i supposed to make my graphics at 320 x 480 then? or do i make them at 1920 x 1280 and do x4? but if i make them at 1920 x 1280 how will they fit my scene if the size is only 320 x 480 pixels? sorry for sounding like an idiot im just really confused with sizing its giving me a headache.

When you place that 1280p asset on the screen, downscale by selecting it; this way when your application is opened on ipad air it will be scaled alongwith your application as a whole and won't look bad cause it is originally a 1280p highres graphic.

I am struggling with a similar problem and the above solution doesn't solve it cause I am creating actors by code and not placing them manually on the scene.

oh ok so i should create my assets at 1280p then? if i click and drag them onto the 320p scene though won't it be too small though. you mentioned a way to downscale it where do i go to do that? in the scene settings or the game settings? im so confused with the X4 scaling and in settings it says X2 universal scaling...really appreciate the input its somewhat clearing things up for me.

also im not so sure how id downscale them...i dont use the scene selector to place actors, i also use code to randomly generate them...LOL

I'm pretty sure the answer is in the mobile app scaling part of stencylpedia but its just the way things are worded that are making it difficult to process...at least for me that is. I'm gonna keep trying stuff let me know if you get anywhere!

I got it, I have been doing it wrong from day 1, when you start making the game from the dashboard and click the blank game icon, it opens a set of templates for games, there is another tab which says mobile & web, when you open that game and import assets anywhere there are two options to import ipad or retina; when imported with retina selected, the assets are downscaled to half their size automatically (tried myself) and don't degrade upon scaling. So this is it all about scaling XD
