Speed Hero: The Game.

-Hi Gals and Fellas. My name is Quinn, and I'm from Speed Hero. A long running, albeit obscure automotive blog that has mostly doubled as a journal of my off beat lifestyle. 6 years, 3 countries, and nearly 65 cars later, I'm still enjoying expressing the Speed Hero way of life.

Dabbling in different and obscure medias is a favorite pass time of mine, from plastering stickers onto guard rails on Japanese touge roads, to T-shirts that have even met the pope, to homemade manga about rusty cars built for the blog; Speed Hero has tip toed into some unique corners of the earth.

I've been toying with the idea of a game for a few years now. I've been customizing racing games for nearly 10 years now and have been playing for longer. When I can't play with real cars, I play virtually. This video game nostalgia stems from a long time emotional investment in automotive expression.  Beginning with my Tomy Turbo Dashboard as a kid, through Pole Position for Atari, then onto Stunts for Dos, continuing with Road Rash for Sega Genesis, followed by Gran Turismo for the Playstation, etc etc etc. The list is endless. These days I waste my time with obscure, non-North American titles of vintage or just plain obscure racing titles.  I'm heavily invested in the culture of automobiles, video games included.

Recently the game-design-bug bit me again; enough to over come my failures with some other game building software of previous. Stumbling onto Stencyl I have been playing for the last half week, and find it's created some truly smooth and enjoyable games from some of the great artists on here! I'm looking to build at least a nice proof of concept game for Speed Hero! :) So far I like the software and it provides a very hopeful projection of an enjoyable, basic game.

Although reinvention of the wheel is a fun goal, keeping it simple is the focus here. A plain-Jane side scroller with some specific focus on the artwork, as that's what I'm best at. Wandering around a level, hopping on some bad dudes, and collecting some unique items. Keeping it pretty normal here. Think 'Cool Spot' but with a bit more Speed Hero.  8)

So there's Little 16 Bit Quinn, the grand prize Car of the game (Lemonade!) and some of his favorite drinks as Power ups.
The art is the easy part for me. :) Getting the game running well, is the tricky business. Slowly I've been hammering out little test rooms, and demos but nothing near what I want quite yet.

What I would like is a guru, or question bouncer. Someone to fire a question off too here and there to point me in the right direction. There is a ton of great information on this site, but I have some learning disabilities that sometimes get in my way, someone to chat too often is my best learning method. :)

Anyways, that's me and my game. I'll be updating as the process unfolds, and if you have questions feel free to ask. If you wish to browse the blog, it can be found at www.speedhero.wordpress.com

Thanks!
