Here's a list of what I think makes a good platformer game. Sadly I can't achieve these standards myself (mostly graphic issues). making a "good platformer" isn't half as simple as making a "plaformer"
-Exceptional graphics
-Somewhat explorative level layout
-SPECIAL EFFECTS! (E.G. little fli sized bugs, lighting, interactive terrain[such as movable litter or objects], and BLOOD)
-Non-clashing graphics and sound
-Sound that fits and LOOPS well with the concept
-advanced programing (E.G. Store, upgradable weapons, ability to pick up new weapons, interactive terrain[such as fireballs coming up from lava or water, stuff like that])
-CAVES! CAVE ARE SO AWESOME! I LOVE CAVES! CAVES CAN GIVE GAMES WHOLE NEW TWIST! THE PLOT CAN CHANGE IN A DARK EVIL CAVE! CAVES GIVE SOOOOO MUCH OPPORTUNITY. PLUS IF YOU DO IT RIGHT, YOU CAN CHANGE THE GAME FROM A SIMPLE SOFCORE GAME TO A HARDCORE KILL'EM ALL TYPE GAME! I LOVE CAVES!
-Most important! Addictive gameplay and something unique!
These are just my opinions, I hoped they helped.
