A combination of Paint, GraphicsGale and Adobe Photoshop CS5 for me. Paint has more flexibility while Photoshop is good for one-click functions. Gale is particularly fun for animations.

I use Aseprite, and I love it (Completely free, and barely any memory usage)

I use Asperite for my 8-Bit Animations, and I love it

What's this asperite? I googled it, but didn't find anything related.

Every since Adobe started their CreativeCloud program allowing access to all CS6 software for $50 bucks a months, it's become affordable for me to have a workflow based on Photoshop, Illustrator and Flash almost exclusively. Photoshop Extended even allows for animating sprites with the timeline capability. Where the Adobe programs are lacking I'll turn to Manga Studio and Corel Painter, depending on whether I'm doing comic book style linework, or more fantasy based painterly styles, but don't use those nearly as often as the Adobe suite.

I use Adobe Fireworks CS6 for most of my graphics. I also use MS Paint then bring the image into Fireworks and very slightly blur the whole image.

MsPaint actually is really good.. I use it some, but I also have photoshop which makes things easier and way faster.

You can recreate the Mona Lisa in any graphics editor. That doesn't mean they're all good!

Edit: Actually I realize you posted that in response to the guy who said nobody can make anything good in it. B[

I swear by Adobe products! I use Photoshop CS6 Extended, Illustrator and Fireworks and I'm starting to use InDesign. I've tried GraphicsGale, Inkscape and GIMP before but never adjusted to them after using PS CS3 for ages. Gotta love the student price plans, never would of got the Master Collection without it.

"Secret santa gift at Pixelation for Toby. Thought I'd submit this as my last online picture of 2006.

Haven't played any of the games, so I had to rely on what little reference I could find. Had to use a somwhat jaggy laptop mouse, so the rocky texture worked to my advatige I guess. The picture ended up on Joystiq after being on Digg, so you might have seen it there already. No matter though. Here it is again :P It's msPaint by the way.

Happy New Year everybody!"

Mostly GIMP, sometimes Photoshop for the stuff GIMP can't do (filters, etc.). I love the ease of use of GIMP, or at least how easy I can use it now ;)

Just got wind of a pixel art program called Pyxel Edit. I haven't tried it out much as I'm not doing any pixel art at the moment, but it seems ideal for those who do. It's free, so just head over there:

Pyxeledit still lacks crucial features such as a way to select and move things.

I just discovered Pyxel Edit today. Looks like it has a lot of potential, despite its current limitations. If they can add a couple of selection tools I'll probably move over to using it on a regular basis. For now, though, I'm probably going to stick with Photoshop.
