Ludum Dare 31 - Entire Game on One Screen

i have to start making games.

I did my first LD when I had barely started in game dev. I would say go for it and try your best to hammer out some game mechanics within the 2 days. Even if you don't submit, it should still be fun.

It doesn't seem cool 

You don't have to meet up with anybody. There is nothing cool or uncool about it. You make a game in 3 days as part of a team or 2-3 days solo. It is meant to push yourself as a developer. I've only done two, and both times I have learned a ton about game development in those 2 days.

I'm definitely doing it. My goal is to hit higher on the graphics side. I might do the jam this go around so I can use some outside assets.

At least snowman picture leaves something to interpretation. A lot of the themes looked like we would have to play 2000 of the same game. The picture could be interpreted as winter, snowing, just having snowmen around, children playing or even having a snowman actor/player/badguy.

I'm not saying that I want it to win, but I would not be upset by it either.

LD Should star have all the votes as images, it would leave much more room for imagination.

I know this is hypocrisy, but I just could not bring myself to vote for the snowman. What is the theme suppose to be?...
I just don't know what it means... Is it s sign?

After the end - you can treat it as postapocalyptic theme. On the other you may see it as continuation of well-known fairytale or legend. "And they lived happily ever after..." not really because ...(and here comes your game)

Color is everything. - I think about RTS where your units had one color and enemies wore other color. This way color is defining you as friend or foe. Color is generally cheerful concept. World would be boring in greyscale. Maybe some little girl splaching colors everywhere.

Death is useful - The concept is of "death" is genrally negative. You can do a sensible game about harmony in the forest and how it is important for all organisms to stay in balance(death beign one of the factor controlling the population). On the other hand you can SLAUGHTER CHILDREN to earn gold. Up to you.

End where you started - Great idea for backtracing. You go on a "mission" and then return home which can be quite different from what you left. Another idea is messing up with game plots. Usually its like: "you start as farmer and then you become epic knight". In this topic you could start as epic knight and become a farmer. Or you can start as knight to become an epic farmer!

Everything falls apart - I like idea of everything getting destroyed and trying to kill you as a result.(Earthquakes and stuff)

Generation - You can use it as DNA/ spore type of game.  You can use it as well to complain about generation of today. How the listen to Justin Bieber etc.

One rule - The problem is you have to come up with the rule but once you got it you can push it to being ridiclous. I would love to see what people can come up with.

Playing both sides - its pretty obvious you need a conflict and you need two opposing. But what if there are more sides than you are aware of...

You are not supposed to be here - The same problem with the "One rule" theme you need to define who "you" is reffering to. Will player meet Stephen Howking in the thai borthel? Or is player being unwelcomed in some place and is being forced to leave?

Deep space - what does it even mean? Is it like space really far far away form home?  Whats so great about it? Say no to star trek references. Leave star trek to star trek fans.

Deja vu - The only things that comes to my mind are: cat from 1st part of matrix and movie with Denzel Washington. I dont remember much form the movie so I guess it wasnt good.

Entire Game on one screen - most of the games are like this. Where is the fun? What's so special?

Machines - Too wide. No defined point to built your game around.

I voted on -1 in previous round but right now I think topic "snowman" is nice. It's cheerful. Xmas is coming. Snow! Food!(too old for gifts) . When you tihnk of it snowman is a word you learn quite early in your life but at the smae time you hardly use it once you grow older. When was the last time you thought about snowman? You don't remember? This weekend will be all about snowman! All hail iceborns!<Evil laughing>

I hope it's not Deep Space! Last time we had Connected World, and there was enough planets and intergalactic travelling to add more…
