I found this awesome (and free) tool for generating random 8bit & 16bit sound effects. I tried it out, it is really cool.

is a pretty awesome in a pinch. Lot of features come with it and the sound banks are well-crafted.
I am an Ambient/Textural/Cinematic composer. Sometimes, for giggles, I write 8 bit music.
