My next go at a Stencyl game.. It's about an underwater expedition on an alien world. The goal is to find and catalog all the flora, fauna and secrets of the oceanic world (no name yet)..

So far I've developed custom swimming controls and at this moment working on the scanning device (used with the mouse). Basically, you'll highlight objects and click down on them until the scanner finishes and get a database entry on your item...

Work In Progress shots:

(Hiding in the alien seaweed :) )

(The tutorial level where you can get used to controls and use the beginning tools and items)

New and better items will be introduced as the player catalogs the planet.  I plan on doing it smartly so that finding and scanning key things will unlock items related to that discovery. Hopefully this is all fun at the same time. I'll try to update regularly as well.

Comments and critique are welcome. Thanks!

Please update to 3.x :P

It has so much better performance for flash. From the images it looks like it will be an interesting game.

Looks very interesting!
The topic is perfect for exploration.
You may want to use an oxygen and pressure system to add difficluty.

Another idea could be to include airlocks where the player can move without the suit afterwards (inside a small base).

Cheers!

letmethink: hahahaha.. Yeah I will as soon as the music is ready for Blaster Bot.. and I can completely scratch it off. Looking forward to 3.2's features.

Bombini: I have oxygen.. but pressure is a really cool idea. Also I had thought about a hub world that was basically a large water craft you could walk around in.. still toying with that.

I like the look of it ! It reminds me of the underwater sections of Metroid Fusion.

But wouldn't the water foreground be annoying if it is always there? Maybe you should decrease it's opacity / fade in fade out over time (or maybe it looks ok when in motion).

Yeah.. I'll be playing with that along the way..

and yes.. the underwater dam portion on TMNT on NES and Maridia from Super Metroid are influences for sure.

beh... AQUATIC's taking a backseat.. Blaster Bot and Romper Needs Cheeseburgers go up for sale at the middle of next week.. and after that I have finally decided to honor the promise I made to my wife and start on her game..

But After that.. I'm coming back to finish this bad boy. :)

Are you using tile sets or large actors for this one (for example the circles, reef, etc.)?  I'm liking the diver.
