Hi there!

Just a quick warning: Freddy's Challenge is NOT complete, but it is playable. I hope you will still take a look at it since I spent a lot of hours on this game! There are a lot of things that are missing so I will try to fill the missing parts with a short description. If you have any question, feel free to ask!

Play it here!

Description:
You play as Freddy, a storyteller who loves stories. No matter how hard he tries, he can't create an original story. One evening he falls asleep and when he wakes up, he finds himself in a mysterious cave. The only thing he finds in this cave is a pencil. Help him find the way out of the cave!

Instructions:
-Arrows or AWD to move
-Spacebar to attack

The game has no instructions nor suggestions! (I didn't have time for them) If you get stuck, this are some suggestions:
- The first level/cave/dungeon to explore is the brown one.
- The second level is the white/grey one.
- After you beat the first level, you can move blocks if you attack them.
- After you beat the second level, you can double jump.

In the meanwhile, enjoy this gif!

Is that character inspired by this guy or is it just a coincidence? Cause both have round red glasses and a striped shirt, and both are "storytellers".

Thanks! Unfortunately I didn't have time for Stencyl this months (university and stuff...) but I decided to t put all the other things aside for a weekend and create this game for the Ludum Dare.

Whoa! I didn't know about Fred Pellerin, but my character looks like him!

Thanks!

A quick update on the game.

I was making very slow progress, so I decided to sleep for a few hours to clear my mind. This game is turning out bigger and more complex than expected, but I hope to complete it in time for the compo deadline (maybe I will cut out some things I originally planned though). Less than a day to complete the game! I have to hurry up!

Hi  Abliblablobla,

Looking great. Too bad you didn't seem to make the Compo deadline.
Are you working at it for the Jam?

I am quite disappointed... I didn't manage my time wisely and I ended up wasting a lot of time. I've submitted a demo version of the game in time for the compo, but there are a lot of things I had to put aside and the game itself isn't complete, but it's still playable. I could probably complete the game in time for the Jam if I wanted, but I cannot skip university today...

By the way, I changed the game name to "Freddy's Challenge". Why Freddie? As Natrium pointed out a few posts above the main character of this game looks like a real life person called Fred Pellerin. This is just a coincidence, but since I couldn't come up with a good name for the game, I decided to use this coincidence.

Some of the things that went wrong:
- The pencil was going to have a much central role later in the game.
- I would have liked to add more obstacles and challenges during the levels. I had so many ideas in mind, but no time for them. This is a pretty negative point since I did a lot of wasted graphics (= wasted time) for those ideas.
- I would have liked to add more graphics details in the scenes, but I had some issues with the software I use to draw and I had to switch software. Lots of wasted time. (On a positive note, I like the new software a lot. If you are interested it is called PyxelEdit).
- The game was going to have dialogs and I planned to use Justin and Irock's Dialog Extension, but I had troubles installing it, so I cancelled dialogs from the original plan. More wasted time.

But some there are also some positive sides:
- The new drawing software (see above) is really cool! I think I am going to use it for the next Ludum Dare. I am still new to this software, but I feel like I am already faster with it.
- I like how the main character turned out.
- The game logic took very little time to create.

You can play the game here . Read the instructions in the description before playing! I would love to hear your feedback.

I have just updated the first post with more informations about the game.

If I have some time I will try to create a post-compo version of the game. I am also thinking about writing a postmortem because I really enjoyed creating this game even though I am not very satisfied with the result.

Hello Abliblablobla,

Played and rated your game.
Very nice but I'm bad at playing platformers where you need skill like the spikes.
I'm a master becoming an angel and it is so nicely done I kind of like death :)
