Admob interstitials won't trigger

Hi all,
I'm using the new Admob extension and I can't seem to be able to trigger the interstitials when a button is pressed, banners are fine though.  The Ad Unit id is correct, not sure why it won't load, anyone have any info or advice? many thanks
