Won't stop "saving"

Hey guys,

I just opened up Stencylworks for the first time (on my new computer, that is  8) ) and I tried to create a new game...

When I set the name, screen size, etc., I clicked the create button, the window vanished, and a little box entitled "saving" took its place.

It has been 12 minutes, and the spinning preloader is still going. Nothing is happening.

I use Windows 7 if you must know. Thanks!  :D

I just noticed my title says "novice stencyler" xD I'm am a veteran from scratch.mit.edu, but I'm apparently a novice here because I can't create a new game? xD

Give us log. It should be in your stencyl directory/logs with name connected to day and hour when log was created.

There are no impossible things. There is only lack of skills.
Don't click this if your computer has less than 641 kilobytes of RAM.

There is a file in my logs folder that says ".DS_store". Is this what you want?

Thanks for the fast response by the way.  :)

We need the latest logs under the logs directory. What version of StencylWorks are you using?

Novice Stencyler is a forum rank for someone with less than 50 posts.

Ah, I see.  8)

The only file in C/program files x86/stencylworks0.9.0/logs is the .DS_store file. Is this not the right directory?

Am I even looking for the right thing?  ???

If you haven't set a custom workspace, then it's the right place to search for logs. However, I noticed you placed StencylWorks in your Program Files folder and that's probably why you don't see any logs - the application can't write them due to privileges issues.

It also explains the original problem. To solve it, move your copy of StencylWorks to another directory, one that doesn't required admin privileges (eg. C:/Stencyl/StencylWorks).

(Being a veteran with Scratch doesn't imply you're a veteran with Stencyl ;] )

If you'd like to run it from Program Files, you'll need to right-click and run StencylWorks as an administrator or generate a shortcut that does that for you.

Program Files prevents SW from doing any file writes to that directory.

One thing I can do for the future is to detect whether the folder you put Stencyl in is writeable, and if it is not, it will pop up a warning on startup and tells you what need to do. That is on my TODO list for the next build.

@Alexin, is it possible to create a shortcut that auto runs an app as an administrator?

I just ran through the crash course. I followed the instructions exactly, but when I clicked "test game", it loaded, but Mambo and the tiles were missing, there was a small red square in the corner, and the three Prongers I had placed appeared to be floating. When I went back into the scene editor to see what might have gone wrong, I deleted Mambo from the scene, but could not replace him/she/it.

We "fixed" this one recently. I put that in quotes because it was never a bug on our side and turned out to be a bug in Flash itself that a forced upgrade resolved. StencylWorks 0.9+ ships with the newer standalone Flash Player.

To verify this, go to the about menu in Flash player after you preview a game. It should say 10.2. If it doesn't, you have the old player and need to redownload.

I tried this again, I checked that I had the latest flash player, and every tile has been replaced with the red square.

1) I'd test other example games and run them.

2) Your case is highly unusual at this stage of development, and short of doing a screen share, it's hard to tell what's going on. Perhaps taking a few screenshots of what you're seeing overall would also let us notice something.

3) ZIP up the game and attach it here. It's under the games directory.
