Hello!
On Linux, you have 2 choices for installing Java, either you do the simple way of installing the open source one or you mess with stuff and get the closed source one.
Does this actually matter? And which is the recommended one to use?

Either should be fine, as long as it's Java 8. They are built from the same code base, the Oracle JDK just has some proprietary extensions.
