It calls itself "Win 7 Internet Security 2012" This virus screws up everything on my computer. It tries to get me to buy their "security system" by going to my browsers and .exe programs by saying "You are unprotected buy our software" It sends me to that page and doesn't let me surf the web. I'm posting this from my iPod touch. My security system, "Microsoft securit essentials" can't do anything about it. How can I uninstall this?

Ps I know that this isn't stencyl related but this seems to be a common virus from research I found on the web so I'm guessing at least someone here has had it. Thanks!

If it isn't stencyl related, then don't post it here. Google help forums for this sort of thing.

You can actually talk about anything in chitchat :p its an off-topic forum, like there used to be a "post pictures of your food" thread :P Whatever happened to that thread :P But I have no clue what to do about the virus, sorry.

I moved it to Chit-Chat. It was in Ask a Question.

My wife's laptop got this or a related virus at one point. It's pretty nasty all the way around. The only way to get rid of it is to have an anti-virus that will launch or run either 1. outside of windows (linux boot CD or thumbdrive with anti-virus on it is a good idea) or 2. before windows gets fully booted.

Of course, you can't really install other anti-viruses with it on there, so it's especially not fun to deal with. It has been a while so I'm not positive it's the same as what I did, but try following the instructions on this website.

Given that this virus also hijacks your browser if possible to prevent you determining how to remove it, you may have to get the instructions open on another computer.

I thought I for a second that I had a virus taking all the space in my hard drive.
Looked a bit and found out I left my capture recorder on for the whole night.
The final video product was 300gb!

I nearly laughed my behind off.

An easier way to get rid of computer viruses is to locate the folder of the virus and delete the virus file or the folder if need be.

"Smart" viruses such as this one will re-create it's files, folders, registry entries, and processes with multiple layers of redundancy. There will be a process that prevents opening the task manager to avoid getting halted. Another will re-generate deleted files. A on-boot executable will do this also. A heavily buried registry entry will direct a second, backup copy to re-infect in case anything is missing. Deliberate breaches in browser security and settings will be introduced to leave the system vulnerable to re-infection.

The exact extent varies, but if you can just delete a file and be done you either deleted a file left intentionally to attract your attention, or just a weak infection.
